Is anyone forcing you to upgrade? Is there anything wrong with still using Office 2k3, or XP? Can you really honestly tell me you want microsoft to restrain its interface design to the lowest common denominator just for the sake of familiarity? The interface makes sense damnit! It's a logical work flow, it's task oriented, you dont really even have to think to find the tools you are looking for if you understand the premise of the interface. Just vote with your wallet, instead of making impotent wailings about it.
If you wanted to have a logo for only the true hackers, those that fulfilled all the ideals that hackerdom is supposedly based around, then you wouldn't post it on slashdot. As soon as something is on slashdot it is torn apart and disseminated to every wannabe and poser on the net for them to regurgitate any time they want recognition.
almost first post......this 20 second wait is killing me!...Ugh, now a 2 minte wat because I just posted. The suspense....
I think I'm starting to hyperventilate!
Actually, Royal has been working on a Linux PDA for a lot longer than that. I remember reading a bunch of rumors about their progress on such a project back in 2000 and even 1999. That was back in the day when I owned a Royal daVinci. It was really a pretty good alternative to the Palm Pilot, except that it didn't have many decent 3rd party apps. Honestly I am amazed that their Linux PDA project ever surfaced again. If this thing actually shows up in stores I probably owe someone money from a long forgotten bet.
The mention of PC Expo 2000, the low end specs of 128RAM and only a 30gig HDD, and the use of WinME and 2k instead of XP lead me to believe that this nifty little "hibread" has been around for a while.
right this minute I am working on a program for a professor that is doing work with UNL on datamining weather and drought information. She has been contacted by the NSA, they are interested in her datamining techniques for tracking terrorist activity. Crazy stuff.
what about... an original idea that isn't mentioned every time some new piece of hardware comes out. "oooh let's see if we can make a beowulf cluster of TiVo's they are so cool!" - "I wonder if I can make a beowulf cluseter of Ti83 calculators..." jeez people:P
It's not our responsibility to keep the company afloat. I'm all about supporting software projects that obviously serve the open source movement, but a business faces risks when playing in the processor arena. I am happy to pay money for projects like the free blender foundation. Transmeta is responsible for getting their processors put into retail products, we are not responsible for donations.
At my college they use the same methods to limit P2P file sharing with exactly the same effects of getting connection speeds that are slower than a 14.4Kbps connection. I normally wouldnt complain about this because they do have the right to do that as our ISP, unfortunately they use the same device/program to limit gaming packets!!! Thats right the thing I was looking forward to was finally having a decent ping in Tribes2 and now I get a ping of over 1000 in game. Those bastards!
By radicals you mean the left wing liberals that really seem to want to throw away any preconcieved notions that anyone has ever held and that might be of importance to other people that live in this country?
And I realize that it is easy to say that the research would be provide invaluable data that could save many many lives. Yet, what do we know? We know that this policy will raise the demand for fetal tissue, even that gained from murdered children, yet you cannot tell me that this research will without a doubt save so many lives in the future that it will outweigh its high cost in humanity. That is just blind assumption.
Why would any college seriously take the opinions of an online community like slashdot despite its tech readership? Decisions like this are made because of an outcry from faculty and staff, not public opinion and certaintly not student opinions.
Yet it is good to hear a nice heartwarming story about Microsoft losing an account (for the time being).
Baby steps people, baby steps.
is this just an advertisement site now or what!

I guess slashdot insists on reinforcing that their primary purpose is to allow litle known business or a persons homepage to recieve massive numbers of visitors and publicity when they barely deserve it. Sure it is a cool idea, but it is weak and not terribly ground-breaking.
Are we all missing the point that Linux, at its heart, isn't meant for making money. You don't make money by selling Linux, you make money by using Linux in your existing business. The very realm that Linux exists in is more socialist than capitalist, that's what's so captivating about it.
I am not a lawyer or even a person familiar with the law in any way, but isnt there something about entrapment in there. I personally agree with this idea, it's great, but my legal spidey sense is tingling on this one.
The council can make a final desicion on stuff like this, but generally there is a technology coordinator and admisistrator for the city that gets to make all of these decisions. These details are generally below a council members radar at the city hall where I work.
two of my favorite sites are aperrantly using these, wired.com and theonion.com both use these. I didnt realize it though until yesterday when I happened to be checking them at work on a communal workstation, that only has IE. Scary stuff, makes me happy that Opera6 is around, which also removes the problem of any popup ads from appearing.
Actually the Aibo does program itself according to your input. You tell it, bad, it wont do that again (hopefully) and you can also pat it on he head specific ways to communicate simple behavior to it. There are a lot of opportunities from what I have been able to read.

1.5" PVC pipe is the most common diameter for potato guns, this is just about a eigth inch to small to fit a golf ball in, believe me, I've tried :)
how do you know they didnt orchestrate this instance of slashvertisement?

What about slashdot, they do the same thing you are mentioning.

I remember when the Iomega Zip drive came bundled with softtware to rip CD's to .mp2's, seems like they were around 30MB for a standard lengths song.

If only it were possible to get past Galak and his abomniable armor!
