I used to work at a large cinema multiplex, and i _have_ seen the same movie both digitally projected and the old-fashioned way. IMHO the difference is even greater than VHS vs DVD, the scratches and the overall blurry picture of analog projection looks like those early silent movies after you've seen something on digital projection. You really should go and see it for yourself , if there is an opportunity.
The only problem they had: the harddrive was too small, so they could only play the shorter movies ( 100 min.) on it...:-)
Exactly what i was thinking.
I (like most geeks) even *downloaded* the commercial for budweiser, because its entertainig, cool stuff.
If some hypothetical TV station suddenly popped out of nowhere, were good shows like futurama and Star Trek: Enterprise would be shown without commercial breaks and logos i would be watching it _all_ the time.
Of course, those stations are already available, they're just "pay tv":-/
If they intend to make TV more and more annoying, they could at least give us DVDs of full seasons of said shows, so one could buy what he wants to see.
Well, i'm using Morpheus to get the latest episodes of my fav. shows anyways, mainly because in germany everything is broadcasted 6-12 months later than its original release date.
Thats something else i wish they would change.
1) FAST Boot
2) i knew what EVERY dir on my HD contained
3) Xtree Gold
4) PCTools
5) arj a a:games -vva
6) all the old games
7) laughably low cpu/mem usage
8) tweaking config.sys and autoexec.bat
9) wtf is a "registry" ?
10) no goddamn "are you sure"'s
As soon as i have a little money left, i'll put my old P200 to some good use and install DOS on it along with all my favorite Tools and games of the time...
Luckily i have my set of DOS disks backed up on a CD-R;-)
Can anyone here remember of a reason to "reinstall" DOS? Well I can't, thats for sure.
When i first heard about the DVD coming out with 17 GB i still dreamed of having a 2 GB hard-drive, but now i cant even afford to buy a 4-9 GB DVD-R drive, and i already have a 15 GB HD, and thats not even large for today's standards.
If they would release this new Giga-DVD RIGHT NOW it may be somewhat cool, but assuming its gonna take at least 1-2 years until we see anything of it on the market, the HDs will already have evolved to 200 or 400 GB i guess. and then i wouldnt be very amazed by it anymore, especially if they first chose to only give us the 25 GB version...
Alright, It would totally own CDr or DVDr, but it wouldnt be sufficient anymore.
Will these companies ever learn anything? If Fans decide to do something on their own to contribute to a community, a game truly reaches immortality. Just look at quake and the like.
I wonder if in the not-so-far-future anyone will care about gathering loyal customers and fans around him or his products anymore. I personally would hate to be drowned in "britney spears"-style rip-offs. I Rather would enjoy some stuff that has potential to become a classic and be remembered.
With XP's licensing making the news for a while, more and more happy MS consumers are realizing that Windows is turning into something hideous. I think if they dont change their course for the better, The News headlines will outline the fall of MS in the not-so-far-future.
being a prominent person does mean you have to be careful what you say and do, or you "get dissed by the media and fans" as someone else recently said.
wishful thinking, but we need some of that in these times...:)
Although i probably would not use a service like that, i could think of people who would. now all they need to do is make this easier-to-learn than programming a VCR , so i don't have to program the VCRs in my neighborhood anymore...;-P
probably if they combine this with speech recognition? hmm..
Turn on Enterprise which is already running and go "computer, record this transmission's rerun"
The idea of paying a monthly fee for a piece of electronics simply sounds suspicous to me. Although they allow you to pay the device in whole, It just sounds as if there were evil forces at work inside that company, and i dont like that thought.
"In the second through sixth attempts to connect to the Net, Windows XP will implore consumers to sign up for something called Passport"
This is definitely the single most frightening feature of WinXP to me: a window that is completely useless, much like all of those other annoying "reminders" but unlike those things, it cannot be prevented from appearing at least 5 (five!) times on my screen.
Thats it, i knew it from the start, and i won't have to be reminded of this fact one more time: WinXP consists of (90% pure evil + 10% blue colour) and anyone who buys it must be a brainless zombie or at least a nazi of some sort.
Forget it, i'm actually gonna use the money i save by NOT buying this crap OR a new PC to finally get real and buy a G4 Mac. They at least have a beautful GUI, plus its OS is mostly Linux anyways...;-P
Oh and i like the idea of having a DVD recorder, too.

Sorry, what i wanted to say was: Why not simply get a Digital Video Recorder? Doesn't that allow me to record whatever i want and watch it later, too?
