Surely that would be a problem with the driving licensing system for allowing anyone to drive a van without a licence. If this carpooling system is outlawed, then any driver should be banned from taking passengers.
I have to admit I've never heard of government distributing drink. Why, exactly? I'm not sure how exactly it would be cheaper than private companies, as they'd have zero competition. Compare that to supermarkets where drink is often on offer or sold as a loss-leader.
The difference is that I have a choice of which private enterprises I do business with.
Until they decide to collude, or merge. Or have such high barriers to entry they have a natural monopoly that you can't vote out or replace. Or in the case of finance, obscure and obfuscate their dealings so you don't know how much they're fucking everything up until they collapse, taking your life savings and pension with them.
I have to admit though, some people have a very sweet naive view of free-market capitalism. Most of them are fans of Ron Paul or Ayn Rand.
This is a lesson as to why you should be wary of travelling down the dark road to socialism. The more power you give to a government, the more shit they come up with like this. Especially when the government is crooked and in the pockets of certain interests (i.e. always).
I agree the questions asked of Sarah Palin in the were rather sexist. For example there was focus on how much money she spent on her wardrobe, where she buys her clothes etc. A male candidate would have never been asked that question.
She set the tone for that when she used her first speech to talk about being a hockey mom and wearing lipstick. Maybe if she'd used that opportunity to talk about the economy, or the Middle East, or healthcare, people might have taken her more seriously. After that first speech however, she was always going to be the comic relief of the election.
Wahhh Wahhh Wahhh blacks are racist because they didn't vote for my preferred candidate. It's so tough being white these days, those blacks get all the luck, now some dirt-poor black kid might get vital medical treatment, what a parasite! How will I afford my second Hummer now? I deserve my money after working so damn hard in my job through the advantages of my background, why should I give a cent of it to the black janitor who has cancer?
Footnote: This is what Republicans actually believe.
Biden is a boring old man who made boring gaffes that were mere slips of the tongue that anyone could make. Palin is an attention-seeker who made hilarious gaffes showing her complete ignorance of everything.
The media is so full of Obama they fail to mention that Obama LOST among white voters 55% to 43%. This election was more about race and Obama worship by the media than anything else. 95% of Black voters voted for Obama.
Really, because I'm pretty sure it was a secret ballot.
And what's really funny is talk about Obama being the second coming of Marx from people who couldn't even define socialism without getting out the dictionary. Presumably the same people against universal health care are also against universal education, and poor kids should be sent back up the chimney or into the workhouse.
Obama didn't need to go negative because there was constant negative stories about McCain/Palin. And there was constant belittling of McCain/Palin on the late night talk shows.
Maybe then McCain shouldn't have picked a candidate who uses her début speech as vice-presidential candidate to talk about hockey and lipstick?
My main problem with EVE is that before you play you have to fill in about a thousand different attributes for your character, most of which you have no idea what they mean unless you've played the game or spent weeks reading up. Would it not be possible to let me get a feel of the game before I spend half an hour selecting what colour my character's underpants are and what his golf handicap is?
The next problem of course would be sitting there watching your spaceship fire lasers at an asteroid.
So on a flat surface it can't even reach the laughably slow speed limits imposed in most built-up areas. My route to work involves a steep incline with a 40 limit, I'd hate to be stuck behind one of these things going 5mph.
The main benefit of this of course is that you can refill it for free at the tyre-inflater.
Yet I still keep finding myself going back to Quake,SoF,Freelancer(best damned mods I've ever played) Deus Ex,etc. Why?
Because those were the first ones you played and you're looking through rose-tinted specs. Someone brought up on Crysis or Call of Duty or Halo would think Quake was a piece of shit. You might be tired of WWII, other people might be tired of shooting monsters in brown corridors.
Yes, it was called the 'industrial revolution', and the lack of regulation meant only the factory owners actually benefited from it.
Libertarians saying that the solution to bankers' greed is less regulation so can be even more greedy make me laugh. No doubt if they were in a hole, they'd agree that they weren't digging hard enough.
I'm not sure how libertarians are more productive than anyone else. Most of them seem to be college kids who spend most of their life on the Internet, so I'd say they're in fact the least productive in society.
You expect hot coffee to be well, hot. It's supposed to be freshly boiled water. Otherwise it is luke warm.
On the contrary, coffee is made with water off the boil, and then left to brew for several minutes, then cold milk is added. McDonald's were serving it at straight-out-of-the-kettle temperature.

Libertarianism is the philosophy of the schoolchild who's suddenly discovered Ayn Rand, knows little to nothing about human nature or how the world really works, and thinks that if only big government got off his back he'd become a millionaire, rather than a sweatshop worker which is more likely.
Three times higher is quite a lot. Especially as they all have guns to defend themselves with, and the death penalty as a deterrent, therefore making murder all but impossible.
This whole series of data-loss scandals just shows the failings of public transport. In America, these USB sticks would just be left in some politician's private jet.
Not including NASA of course, which generates huge value for the American economy. But of course you knew that anyway.
Surely that would be a problem with the driving licensing system for allowing anyone to drive a van without a licence. If this carpooling system is outlawed, then any driver should be banned from taking passengers.

I'm talking about FPSes. If you hadn't played Quake before, and played it today, you'd wonder what all the fuss was about.
Because those were the first ones you played and you're looking through rose-tinted specs. Someone brought up on Crysis or Call of Duty or Halo would think Quake was a piece of shit. You might be tired of WWII, other people might be tired of shooting monsters in brown corridors.
He spent the best part of a year spouting empty rhetoric and meaningless buzzwords, if that's the best candidate ever then democracy is over.
Intelligent and mature people recognise the benefits of investment into public services and infrastructure.
Libertarians cry: "but moooooommmmm, I don't wanna pay my taxes..."

Maybe then they should increase the price by putting a landfill tax on it.

If you think the two candidates are both quality then that's your opinion, but you must have very very low standards for politicians.
If the US was founded on libertarianism, why did they keep slaves? And why did they not respect the land and resources of the natives?
The Labour government have farmed out huge sections of public-sector work to private contractors. We can fine them instead.
