Some one always get upset when the government mentions religion. Think of all the fundies who would be screaming bloody murder if we allowed school prayer - then set a few of those prayers aside for Wiccans and Satanists. Thats the problem, most people who want religion in the gov't only want their *own* religion.

No, where you are wrong is bringing creationism up to the level of a theory. Its just a speculation. A theory produces testable and refutable predictions. Those test have to be repeatable. When did anyone see a species being created?

I agree, to launch a strike like this, we need a real declaration of war. I don't see that the administration has *any* constitutional ground to go ahead on there own. But if they can persuade congress to actually declare war, then at least they've done their duty by the laws of this country.

For what it's worth, there were probably a lot of companies that made money on it since the military contracts out a lot of things. But I do agree that it wasn't driven by the contractors, it was all just a poorly thought out operation. Good motives but a dumb idea all around.

Actually, if you really think about it, an expanded air sphere *might* create some sort of drag, interacting with the solar wind. This has a little more effect than you might think and is a contributer to the uncertainty of NEO orbits (the solar wind pushes them around just enough to change their orbits slightly). Of course this planet has also warmed up a lot more than it is now at various other times in its history so I doubt we will send it spinning off into space.

The problem with all your posts on this thread is that you are shining a certain light on religion *until* you reach yours at which point you snap the light off and and say "...but not mine!". One quick case in point, televangelists. Many of them are born agains who live large off contributions from misguided viewers.

People who live up there actually use a different system among themselves: the NY/Penn border is called the Southern Tier, Utica/Syracuse is Central NY, The Adirondacks are "up north". But the the rest of the world, it was just called upstate NY for simplicity.

  13. Re:Escape from Silicon Valley on Sili-Hudson Valley? · · Score: 1

Having lived in both Upstate NY (Utica) and now around the NYC area, I *really* doubt that money is flowing to NYC from the rest of the state. In the Utica area the biggest employer, by far, was the state and the rate of those on welfare was high and getting higher. Out in the rural areas it was worse and my siblings in Rochester and (formerly) Buffalo have always told me it was worse there. Of course people up their like to believe that they are in such bad shape because of NYC, and what you heard was the pols telling them what they wanted to hear.
