    I watched that show some time ago, and what I concluded was that the "social scientists" he interviewed aren't scientists at all. They emotionally rejected the data from actual scientists that didn't support their wishful thinking.

    I've never gotten any of these calls, but my mom got one once. She has a Mac, so she knew immediately that the guy was full of shit. She told him she was calling the police and he hung up immediately.

    I've seen plenty of drivers who subscribed to Uber, Lyft and Sidecar. The labor commission is simply wrong, and I hope Uber litigates this all the way to the supreme court if necessary.

    There's rarely a good reason to re-write existing code.

    There are plenty of good reasons to do so, particularly when that existing code is less efficient than it could be and it's running in a resource-constrained device like a phone or an iPad.

    Look man, I work at Apple. If there's any code developed in swift [1], that would be a complete surprise to me.

    I've worked there too (three times), and I stay in touch with my former colleagues, particularly those in DevTools and Cocoa frameworks. If you're not hearing about Swift work, then you're in the wrong group.

    all the new APIs of iOS 9 and OS X 10.11 are still written in both C and Objective-C with Swift bridge headers.

    You're not taking into account the ease with which Obj-C classes can be extended in Swift, with the new Swift code remaining available to Obj-C.

    Obj-C is on the way out. I say this as one who has used it since 1989. I'd guess that we're about a year away from the point where the majority new code at Apple is written in Swift.

    Exactly. Apple manufactures low-volume products in the USA, and does high volume manufacturing in China. Steve built the original Mac factory and the NeXT factory here, but went overseas in the 90s because staffing a factory in the USA is bloody difficult these days.

    That may be the most pathetic thing I've read on /. this year, and you've got quite a bit of competition.

    The judge, the legislature and the executive exercise power delegated to them by the people. The jury ARE the people. They act in their sovereign capacity to see justice done in the case before them, and they OUTRANK the entire fucking government when they do so.

    That woman you're bitching about is a far better person than you could ever hope to be.
