It seems as likely that the activity being performed is the determining factor rather than gender, more studies across varying activities probably need to be conducted before generalizations can be made.
Actually I'm hoping Google adds this to Google Maps Mobile. Currently they use the commercial traffic services for data which means a delay of 15-30 minutes typically in getting notification about traffic jams, with realtime data from actual commuters they could provide MUCH better data. This would save me hundreds of hours per year. The government can already track you through the cellular network and Google would not turn the individual user data over to anyone else, so why wouldn't I participate?
Just turn off NAT in any of the routers that supports linux, it's not like disabling the IPTables rules is too difficult if you are already installing linux =)
Are you talking about the v2 having problems with stock firmware or hardware problems? I mostly see the v2 for sale now and was thinking about getting one to run DD-WRT.
The biggest way to increase VoIP quality is to set your hosts to use an MTU of 576. At typical US broadband rates the time to transmit a 1200 byte packet is long enough to seriously affect jitter, especially if your VoIP packet gets behind two data packets (one just started and another in the queue).
Actually as long as the post comes from your IP it undoes moderation. Have you noticed the slowness in the preview button returning the first time you use it in a day, that's because slashdot is reaching out and scanning your IP for open proxies, they also attach that IP to your posts and moderations.
RDP is fine over 19.2 dialup with latency over 600ms. Just do minimal resolution, 256 color, bitmap caching on and turn off everything else (drives, clipboard, sound, etc). It even tends to handle packet loss well, I had a site in Puerto Rico where the packet loss was approaching 40% and I was able to get in and retrieve meaningful information and shut off the offending switchport.
Try using the advanced options in mstsc to turn off all of the mappings (drives, printer, etc) and set the resolution to 640*480 or 800*600 at 256 color mode. I've used that over bad dialup and satellite and it works pretty well.
An interesting idea I saw posted a couple days ago regarding the Neocons machine and this election:
I keep getting a mental image of McCain on election night, looking broken, then walking off stage, shutting himself alone in a room, and out comes an enormous creepy grin. He immediately picks up a phone, dials a number, and says, "Hello, Karl? Yeah, how do you like your permanent majority now? Payback's a biatch, fat boy," then hangs up.
MS will probably sell XPe licenses until the next embedded windows OS has been out for some time. This will likely be around 2015 (Win7 ships 2010, add 5 years) so your estimate probably isn't far off.
X sucks over anything less than 10Mb Full Duplex IMHO, if you have less bandwidth than that between client and server there are MUCH better protocols like ICA/RDP, NX, or even VNC. This was true when I worked at Cisco back in 2000-2003 and it's still true today. I found that if you had to use X from a remote site even over the 6Mb pipe it was painful so people learned to use VNC with SSH to avoid latent cursor problems and slow screen refreshes not to mention the absolute pain of dropped sessions ending the remote app.
MANY years ago? The X.Org foundation was only started in 2004 and most distro's didn't switch to using it right away (OS X 10.5 was the first release with X.Org instead of XFree as an example).
USB cables wouldn't work well, too high of frequency. Cellphone chargers aren't hard to fix. Just snip out any damaged pieces and strip the insulation back then use crimp connectors or solder to connect the two new ends then heat shrink it. I personally find very small wires don't stay well in crimp connectors so I solder them.
I've never persecuted Christians or people of any other religion. The 'worst' thing I have ever done is try to keep their views out of schools and the workplaces I have been a part of. I am perfectly willing to discuss religion in a non-antagonistic manner outside of work hours. As I said my personal experience living in a battleground state is that there has been a lot more attempts by the religious right to control people than the other way around.
Really, have you not been paying attention? The fundies are trying to dismantle science and replace it with thinly veneered proselytizing about their creation myth. Palin is on the record as saying she is against all abortions including in the cases of incest, rape, or the health of the mother and she gets cheered loudly while saying it. I would call that seriously suppressing the rights of your daughter. I have zero problem with most Christians, they are generally good people who try to lead decent lives. It's the more vocal minority that has gotten heavily involved in politics and tried to control how I live my life that I detest.
I give as I receive and this crap about the poor Christian minority being oppressed when my experience is exactly the opposite is the kind of thing that really pisses me off. I'm sorry but being punished for playing a game because it "encourages witchcraft" (Magic when I was in High School). Being told that I can be put in jail because of the salient material I choose to view or objects I choose to purchase (porn and vibrators) because they don't agree with someones 'morals', etc. The thing that really pisses me off the most is the attempted control over women's bodies. If it weren't for the availability of late term abortions my brothers and I wouldn't exist. My mother had an extremely high risk pregnancy with my older brother, to the point where the doctors wanted to abort him and tie my mothers tubes. If she hadn't had the option to abort the pregnancy if her life were threatened then she would have been forced to follow their advice. By having the option available to her there are three more generally good souls on this planet who try to be assets to their country and community.
No, instead they exclude the non-Christians, do their best to game the rules to punish them, and actively try to suppress their education and rights. Once you stop your stupid Creationist backdoor indoctrination campaign, leave women's bodies to themselves, stop butting into my bedroom and entertainment and start acting like good neighbors THEN I will stop bashing 'Christians'. Every time I have debated religion with a lay 'Christian' I have always known more about the true teachings of Jesus than they have, they only know the hate and vemon spat from the pulpit and pushed by their local conservative politicos.
All (ok most) of the TIER 1 peering agreements are settlement free, that's the way the game works. From time to time one of the players thinks they have a strategic advantage in their mix of customers and decides to depeer someone. This has basically always resulted in their customers screaming bloody hell and forcing them to reconnect and find a way to make things work. The fact is that there is no additional cost for Sprint to maintain the existing peering agreement, they already bought the routers and connected the long haul equipment. In fact it will actually cost them more to charge for the peering because then they have to involve accounting and accounts receivable. I'm not personally privy to the agreements have with the other TIER 1's but the fact is that Cogent has peering with all of them and they haven't recently been depeered by any of the others despite the fact that they are all miffed about the declining revenue due to Cogent's aggressive pricing.
Hmm, how about an eye tracker/brain scan based mouse control for moving the pointer and the rest of the operations done through voice recognition.

How the heck will a soldered connection develop a short under heat shrink tubing or electric tape?

Ok, realistically I used connector blocks for 2 gauge, it was a bit of hyperbole =)
They go to junior geeks who prove their worth with a worthy hack.
Turn in your geek card, a soldering iron and heat shrink tubing will fix any power cord from 28AWG to about 2 gauge.
