I bought a $299 Lindows PC from walmart.com when my old computer got fried. I have been unable to find any way to obtain the source code from lindows.com's website. Also I couldn't find any phone number or any way to reach a real person at lindows to ask my questions. Finally, lindows.com (the website) swears that I'm not using lindows because I upgraded my browser (and kde in general) via apt-get.
Redhat can do as they wish as long as they don't violate the license.
The real problem is that all those greats features they're losing by not using KDE apps exclusively shouldn't be KDE only features, all X apps should share code and integrate well, etc.
KDE (and GNOME and anything else)'s apps should have to stand on their own, individually, not all or nothing.
Redhat SHOULD choose default apps (while allowing users to change the default globally [i.e. in GNOME and KDE by changing on setting not two]), for a particular task, and have them the default everywhere. This makes it easier for users to switch between desktops and try different things out.
Switching desktops and switching mail clients and switching browsers are each seperate tasks, individual switches if you will, instead of only one giant switch.
Yes, exactly. What's right is right, and needs to be supported even if you don't like the person/company, even if they're doing other illegal or immoral things, even if they otherwise make your life a living hell.
It doesn't matter what else they did wrong, if they're doing this right you must support them. Too often here people are glad when some "evil" company goes, when they are otherwise against what destoryed them. That's hypocritical.
As someone who's read a little about the various problems with (the modern, naturalist, neodarwinian theory of) evolution and how the math doesn't add up,etc, I don't really care much for the names of some open source projects, like apple's darwin, and gnome's evolution mail client.
I'm not dissing the code, or the hard work people have spend on them, I just think the name is stupid and turns me off from it. How many of you would think "Creationism" is a good name for a mail client (the authors are creating it right?) or, I dunno, name your kernel after Jesus?
I don't mind the size of the ad, or that its in the middle of everything. I do find the fact that its on top of the text and preventing me from reading it quite annoying though.
Why are these mobo's so much more expensive than what I see for x86 ones? Or for that matter what Apple seems to charge for whole systems. Are they actually somehow better? (I know PPC and x86 are hard to compare, and apparently PPC's run "faster" at the same clock speed, etc) Or does it have to do with demand and buying in bulk?
I was just wondering how much of this is tied to the neodarwinian theory of evolution. Doesn't that theory have circular dependencies with the fossile record? I've also heard a lot about errors in radiometric dating and stuff like that, but I have yet to fully look into it.
Anyway, how much of this story is influenced by the idea of evolution, and how would the story read if fallicies were found in the NDT?
It doesn't seem to display correctly in ns4. I had to use "view source" in order to read any of the text and get the url of the pictures. Probably you need to double check your table html.
The biggest problem with X is what it doesn't do. In other words, the biggest problem with the moderm X11 based UNIX/Linux/etc desktop is the desktop environments and toolkits, not X itself.
One of things everyone seems to like about the X replacements is they tend to intagrate a toolkit of some sort, that forces a command user interface.
So what i think it needs is a standard for how the toolkits act. Really this is a small layer between the toolkits and X, but it can be thought of as part of X so that all tk's comform to it, instead of having dozens of these.
It could start as something as simple as a common toolkit theme and build from there. Not everything would have to honor the setting but it would be strongely encouraged when it makes sense.
Gnome and Kde are both part of the linux desktop, and from what i've seen, they need to cooperate more.
Just because there is not a war going on between them doesn't mean they couldn't use improved relations. There is not enough interopablity. IMHO, that is the area they most need to work on. This doesn't mean merging the projects or anything like that. This means making them work together, and making them share things where appropriate. Maybe even taking some things out of themselves and moving them into a shared lower level.
It would be nice if they should share things like themes and configuration options. I should be able to say i want my default window background color blue, and most windows should listen and do that. I shouldn't have to say i want my GTK+ windows blue, then say again i want my QT windows blue, then say again i want my xyzlib windows blue, etc.
I could be wrong here, but IIRC, the moon's gravity is what causes the oceans here on earth to have tides. And without tides, the oceans would stagnate, and life on earth would be impossable. So those of you who think it doesn't matter what we do to the moon better think again.
This will work great, until someone finds a bug in the knock processor, and uses it to root your box.

Thanks for the mirror though!

More shared standards!
