The worst part is that they are utterly inept about it. They post broken links and don't realize that I get an email for every post made to my blog and can quickly remove their comment.
Assuming that the GPL is made unenforcable or null and void from this lawsuit then the copyright of software released under the GPL (I believe) goes back to the writers.
All the writers then have to do is release it under a new license and we're back at stage 1.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong?
They are always based around the concept of 'killing things for experience', which means that groups of players are always waiting around common monster spawning areas ready to jump on whatever pops up.
So you end up sitting around a lot making small chat with whoever it waiting near you (many people). You're in a lineup to kill monsters that randomly appear. I don't see how that's much better than sitting in an arcade in the 80's waiting for the Galaga machine to be free.
At low levels it's too dangerous to go anywhere but a very small area, which is where all other low-level players go. Venture outside of that area and you are dead. Unfortunately it's the only way to get experience.
What would be better is if 90% of the game world was populated by low-level monsters and those high-level monsters required people to seek them out. Just think of mythology...the minotaur was in his maze, the medusa was on her island, etc. High-level monsters should be unusual and hard to get to. People should seek them out in a quest of sorts. Hundreds of high level monsters shouldn't be walking around woods within an hour of a heavily populated town.
Sorry, but the current scheme of MMORPGs is just no fun for people who aren't obsessive.
But I used Yahoo chat's video and audio features to woo my now-wife a year ago. Sure, it isn't something I need to hold to my ear and talk, but the computer is a lot more flexible, sending images, copy-pasting quotes, etc.
Videophones are here, but they (not surprisingly) do not look like the original 1950's inspiration.
The other day I had to sit on hold for nearly an hour to try and figure out a problem with my work's ADSL connection. The guy was absolutely flabbergasted that I knew what routing was, that I'd done traceroutes and other things to pinpoint the problem and that I had a suggestion on how they could fix it. The real pain in the ass part was that I had to go through all the stupid questions that he's forced to ask normal users (ie. "have you rebooted?" "have you installed any software recently?").
Most humorous was telling him that every single computer in the office ran linux so his suggestions were not going to work (ie. "Ok, go to Start, Settings, Control Panel).
I'm kind of hoping to not have any IP addresses in 10 years. I'm becoming rapidly overwhelmed by technology even though I've been a working linux admin for 10+ years.
Too bad the money collected by the CPCC on this hasn't been shared to the musicians at all, instead being used to send all the CPCC people to a vacation/conference.
...when the right tool for the job can't be found then it will be sought by this gov't. That is excellent news, as it builds the open source pool of software, and pays (hopefully local brazilian) open source software writers for their effort.

Instead, I've got to write ugly crap like "if (strpos($alltext, "This string") >-1)" in order to check if a variable contains a string.
In Perl? "if ($alltext ~= "This string")". Much nicer.
...does the US government own large amounts of its own IP? Are they locking down on this stuff in self-protection? Is the gov't in a conflict of interest in its own laws?
If you didn't suck, you wouldn't have gotten to this point.
I've been to a few of your trade shows here in Vancouver, and to be honest, it was pathetic. The people standing in front of cool-looking technology had no technical knowledge to explain it. The costs were prohibitive for vendors, so you ended up with a few huge booths by Apple, Microsoft...but very few small ones. The schwag people were giving away was stupid (plastic balls, golf pencils - no t-shirts, nothing informative about the products). And even though people were barely trickling in and there were no lineups, it took half an hour to process badges to allow people in.
Comdex, you are mismanagement of the highest order. You provided a tradeshow that no one wanted and weren't willing to change to entice your potential customers. You obviously had no idea who we in the technical field are and never cared to ask us what we really wanted to see. You were the worst of the dot-com boom, and couldn't be bothered to change for the dot-com decline.
So I'm not sorry to see you go. Goodbye Comdex, let's hope that you are the last.

I'd call it malware, since it royally crapped out my wife's laptop. Maybe I should sue Gator for that. If I was as much of an asshat as this CEO.

Are the makers of RoboCrap/Sweep going to sue under the DCMA, claiming that this dude reverse engineered the robot?

How I loved the sprite graphics on my TI99/4A. A friend and I each had one...he went on to code for idSoft, and I went on to be a lowly sysadmin :)
I'm curious...how did your first computer affect your life? (assuming you aren't 13 years old and your 1Ghz PC is still affecting you).

How long do you have to ordinarily hold a stock before receiving a dividend? Could I buy M$ stock now and get the dividend?
How often are announcements like this followed up? How many dividend payouts are there in a year?
What I'm wondering is if I could make better profits from buying and selling at dividend time than the crappy 3% I get from the bank.

My sig is appropriate, I think.
