  1. For the WoW players.... on Happy Talk Like A Pirate Day, Me Hearties · · Score: 1
  2. Something I've been waiting for... on Dissecting Songs Down to Their 'Musical Genome' · · Score: 1

This is something I've been waiting for, for quite a while now. I like a lot of different types of music. I also don't have the time or opportunity to really sample a ton of different artists to find more music I like. The closest I've been able to find is various mp3 stream stations & just make notes of what they're playing. Unfortunately the ones I've become rather accustomed to, don't seem to rotate in new music fairly often.

The only drawback I've found so far is that they database is still growing, as such a number of tunes I put in, weren't found.

There's only one real thing holding me back from subscribing right now, and that's that it's just too good to be true - I'm pretty sure it'll get killed by the RIAA or something fairly soon. I even sighed a bit of disappointment when I saw this posted here on slashdot.

Frankly, I don't want Budweiser knowing when I choose to buy their beer versus another brands.

Why not? If they do know & decide to change for me, we both win. I get what I want, they make a sale.

Maybe on Tuesdays I like my beer cold, and on wednesdays I like it warm. How exactly is it bad for them to know that & have it chilled for me on Tuesdays & have it out warm on Wednesdays?

  7. Re:Different zone, different dragon - I'm stupid. on Shadowbane Servers Hacked, Chaos Ensues · · Score: 1

So, she zoned into the Temple of Veeshan (at that time, the highest level zone in the game) and went right in front of Veeshan herself (the uber dragon.)

Veeshan is not in game, and most likely never will be (she's bigger than the entire planet). And yes as you qualified below, it was VP, not ToV.

The zone was Veeshan's Peak (the Luclin expansion with ToV was not out) and the dragon was whoever the end of it was.

ToV was in Velious, not Luclin, an enitirely different expansion. VP was in Kunark, another completely different expansion. The bindings (from the screenshots that were posted) were done at the front of the zone, not at Phara Dar (the dragon at the end).

I was a Guide (volunteer CS rep, like an Advisor in Anarchy Online or a Counselor in Ultima Online) for two years in EverQuest

Ahh, all the mistakes & misinformation makes perfectly sense now.... just about anyone with any knowledge of EQ knows that guides consistantly DONT KNOW JACK and will completely make stuff up instead of saying "I dont know".

The DirecTV/Tivo box supports this, the dual tuner capability is absolutely lovely. With dual tuners, you can watch live & record another channel, or record 2 channels & watch a recorded one. Honestly once you've been using Tivo for a while you don't watch any live tv anyways.

Before when only 1 tuner was supported I ran into alot of conflicts with 2 things being on at the same time. Since they activated the second tuner last year, I've only had very rare occasions were there were 3 shows on at the same time.

  11. Supporting the Artist on Preview the New Napster · · Score: 1
If you want to support the artist, then you should buy the cd, instead of going through another layer to "borrow" some of the profits

Who's to say gaming is bad & working is good?

Maybe we've all got it backwards & we're supposed to be maximizing the amount of fun we have instead of maximizing the amount of numbers in a bank account somewhere?

I geek alot, EQ, DAoC, RtCW, MGS2, you name it; as a result I don't have alot of other time to do things other people might consider "normal". But ya know, I've got friends I've made in EQ & the other games, that I've had for years now that are way closer than most people I know in a strictly non-gaming sense. Who's honestly qualified to say which is 'better' for you?

  16. Email? on CA Court: Message Boards Are Opinions, Not Facts · · Score: 0

    Devil's Advocate Mode:

Can't you logically draw a line from "message board postings" to email since they both have the same 'lack of controls'? And from there actually give more protection to the "Make $10,000/day working from home" emails since they're not really facts, they're just opinions now?

Granted, fraud charges aren't really stopping said emails anyways, but I'd hate to see them get even more 'room to play' so to speak....

  17. Re:what they *SHOULD* do on TV Networks Sue ReplayTV · · Score: 0

For example, if RIAA would provide high-bandwidth, high-availability servers with fully indexed music with fast searching and guaranteed bitrate quality (192-256 perhaps?), I'm sure people would pay a reasonable price per download.

These are the same people that charge 17.99+ for a CD of 8 crap songs bundled with 1 that I want. I don't know about you, but I don't really want to pay 49.99 for 1 episode of the Sopranos bundled with 5 episodes of SpyTV.

  19. Perfectly fine..... on ATI Drivers Geared For Quake 3? · · Score: 1

I think this is perfectly acceptable: Quake 3 is the biggest game out there on Windows, and if ATI has invested a little extra time into pumping a few extra (meaningless) frames out of your Radeon 8500, is this really an act of treachery? I'm going to write a Voodoo 1 driver now to detect when 3dMark2001 is running at 1024x768x32 and have it force it down to 320x240x8; I should be able to get 10,000+ marks no problem! And it's perfectly acceptable because 3dMark2001 is the biggest 3d benchmarking tool out there on windows.
