Their AAC files aren't encoded from the original master recordings like those on the iTunes Music Store though. Which is one major advantage Apple has over everybody else.
Only problem is 5. They're not priced higher than most competitors with comparable features and capabilities.
They're perceived to be priced higher because they don't offer a low-end (POS) to match up against the competition that are driven by the low-end market that those other manufacturers pander to. On top of that, there is no other company that offers the ease-of-use, integration, stability and security that Apple can offer out of the box.
Before the flaming starts, I don't care about what you can scrape together in your home from scouring the universe for inexpensive components because you don't include the value of your own time for those projects, if you did then your "built it myself" boxes are far more expensive than any other machine out there. This is about features and hardware by valid retail/internet manufacturers.

Fine, 70 million sold, just like Microsoft has sold 15.5 million units. Let's not forget resale and refurbishment which only get counted once, too. Either way you look at it, both companies have issues that make their numbers appear more impressive than they truly are. But 70 million is still substantially more than 15.5 million, nearly triple the market penetration. As for your remarks about replacement units and playing pirated games, the same holds true for the XBox. Let's not forget the "dirty disk" class action against Microsoft and the bad hard drive unit replacements. There's also the "illegal", by Microsoft definitions, Linux installations. There's also mod chips, which weren't nearly as much of an issue with the PS2 as they were for the PSOne but were a big issue for Microsoft and the first XBox.
None of that really matters as much as the game unit sales of the two "series" that we were discussing. GTA 3 more than doubled the sales of Halo in the three years since they were both released while GTA: VC nearly tripled the sales of Halo in just two years time, Halo was out an entire year before the release of GTA: VC and it's sales aren't even close. GTA:VC wasn't touted as being the defining game of the platform like Halo was when it came out either.
You come across like a demented fanboy when you take in the big picture here. Sorry, GTA is a more popular title than Halo will ever be, which was my point in the first place, Halo isn't really as popular as Mcrosoft wants everybody to believe it is.

No conspiracy. It can't sell as much as GTA: SA. There are 60+ million PS2s out there and only 10+ million XBoxes. Not a chance in hell of Halo 2 outselling GTA: SA. Sorry to burst your bubble.
DirecTIVO is fantastic! It's a far superior product and platform to "not-quite" UltimateTV. This is clear from the fact that MS couldn't manage to compete before. Now they decide to attempt to enter the market through a partnership that doesn't leave the end user with any real options.
MS is artificially influencing the market yet again, since they were unable to compete in a fair manner in the past with their sub-standard products, yet again.

I just strolled into Best Buy and there were dozens, if not hundreds, of copies of Halo 2 on the shelves. Many, many copies of the "limited edition" were still there too. If this is such a huge game then why is it that at the same Best Buy on the release date of GTA: SA there were none to be found?
Gotta wonder if the pre-orders that MS has been touting is just the orders that got shipped out to all the stores or if it's actual numbers of consumer purchased units.
I doubt that Halo 2 will come close to a third of the sales expected of GTA: SA. The first weeks' sales of GTA: SA were expected to have topped 4.5 million units. Halo 2 might get somewhere near that number after it has been out for while. There will probably be a huge dropoff in sales after the release date.
Heck, Halo hasn't sold much more than 3 million copies worldwide as of last year, otherwise there would have been talk about it, and it has been out for nearly 3 years now.
My bad about the first nVidia card for the Mac being the 4MX. You are correct that the 2MX was the first one on the platform. Brain f*rt or something there.
You guys are mistaken. The GeForce4MX was what was first introduced in the Mac in January of 2002 before it was released to the PC world. Not the GeForce3. Actually, it was the first nVidia graphics card on the platform. This was a short while after 3Dfx went out of business and nVidia scooped up their intellectual property.

Actually, that's the GeForce4MX, which was on the Mac first and shipped out in Macs first. That was in January of 2002. The card was supplied as OEM to the Mac community later, but in the new Quicksilver machines, at that time, it was delivered to the Mac users first. Sorry.
Oh, no. That can't be. It's not possible. I know better. This is all a bunch of garbage.
Is the/. community just a bunch of ridiculous children, or what?
So many with such an inordinate amount of intolerance is truly disturbing.
Is this somehow a threat to that obviously fragile sense of superiority that there needs to be such a backlash about a little article. Does this really affect any of you directly? Sounds like everybody wants to whip out a ruller and compare their genitals. It's a very sad state of affairs seeing this kind of outrage and self-association.
Other than Sony, in the new PS3?

Unless that's what the respondants claim when you interview them.

There were over 11 million copies of GTA3 sold and more that 13 million copied of GTA:VC sold worldwide. So what are you talking about? There is an enormous following of the GTA series and the PS2. Substantially more sales of each iteration of GTA than Halo, of which Microsoft now claims to have sold 5 million copies. The same holds true for the PS2 vs. the XBox. Actually, the sales of each GTA title, since GTA3, to date, is very close to the number of actual XBoxes in the worldwide market. With this information, there are no "...HUGE assumption(s)..." being made on my part. Sony has over 70 million PS2 units in the market compared to about 15.5 million XBoxes in the market today.
GTA: SA sold more than 3 million copies worldwide through the first weekend. This is double the "pre-orders", which is really the number of units that were shipped out by Microsoft, for Halo 2. So, in less than the first week, GTA: SA has sold three fifths of the total sales of Halo 1 since it's release.
No conspiracy. It can't sell as much as GTA: SA. There are 60+ million PS2s out there and only 10+ million XBoxes. Not a chance in hell of Halo 2 outselling GTA: SA. Sorry to burst your bubble.

So, you're expecting the MS sponsored Justice Department to come a knockin' any time now, aren't you?
This is ridiculous. How much money do they have to dump into a losing proposition?
Halo 1 still retails for $30.
Are you playing in Afghanistan?

..."the industry's first NVIDIA GeForce4 graphics card...", was actually released on the Mac platform before it came to the PC world. Now, this doesn't change the fact that the 4MX was really just a turbo charged 2MX and was inferior in performance to the 3, but they did get the 4's first, technically. I apologize for my egregious error.
My mix up came from the fact that the GeForce4MX,
Also, by 2/22/2001, Apple was updating the Cube with a GeForce2MX in it already. It was on 1/9/2001 that they introduced the PowerMac G4 (Digital Audio) with the GeForce2MX.
There was not a GeForce3 for the Mac line of machines. The GeForce4MX was the first nVidia product for the Mac.
