Not a lot, but the Williams tube had been around for about 10 years, which used raster scan, and displaying characters on a TV screen by pixel lookup would have been completely obvious to anyone who had actually seen a Williams tube. (OK only a few hundred people).
I tried it on our family machine which has been running Ubuntu for about 5 years. It declares that the hardware is inadequate to support the new UI, and advises you not to use it - but not until you have already started it, and cant find a way to stop it.
If it knows the hardware wont support it, why does it even try? (fortunately, I happen to know about ctrl-alt-f2, and am confident using the CLI. My grand-childen are not in the same boat.
I admit its not the latest hardware, but I regularly use older hardware. The VGA card is on the motherboard, and is probably rubbish too. It draws a solid colour areas over the tops of windows you are trying to use, and hides the bar which would enable you to logout!
Once you manage to get back to "classic, without effects" its OK. But for bad user experience, I'd still give it 10/10.
Personally, on my Ubuntu systems I use Excel on Wine if I really need to use that old crap. It works as well as can be expected for Excel Macros.
OpenOffice has a much better word processor than MS Office 2003, which is what is still in use in much of the UK. Its quite easy to persuade people that its a free alternative to the hated Office2007 which eats screen space. And it opens their office97 documents reliably.
I have a Wii, and I play it almost every day, but only Wiifit and Tiger Woods Golf, and my son only plays James Bond or Mario something, because the other games we bought suck so badly they are not actually playable, There's no way I would buy another Wii game. The games either have to be $1.99 or they have to actually work! (Preferably both).
We have no other gaming platform in the house, (Angry Birds on an HTC desire or Kill Bill on Linux do not count) and in reality, I would NEVER buy another platform that does not actively encourage independent, third party games.
But I would pay real money to have Commander Keen on my Desire)
The cell is a hardware database engine as used in mainframes. IBM did a deal with Sony to get a volume user, because somehow games consoles sell in bigger volume than mainframes:-) (PS3 programmers probably dont know how to get the best of it even now, because it comes from a very different culture)
If this plays true to form, IBM will be working hard on getting a volume buyer for its next gen mainframe hardware. And the tool chain will be the main problem for games developers once again.
even if something is only patented in US, it applies worldwide.
That is about as wrong as you can get. The high cost of patents is mainly because you have to patent in every country where the device could be manufactured, which requires translating a technical/legal document into a lot of languages,. This generally costs a lot more than the filing fees.
Any attempt by the USA to enforce its laws outside its boundaries wlll eventually lead to war - although currently it just leads to bribery and corruption.
Thats because the terms of reference are Old world, new world, and third world
The Old World - That which was known to the Romans in about the time of Christ.
New World - stuff that was discovered at about the time of Columbus.
Thrid world - the rest.
These terms were not originally about wealth/poverty, but about history. They got hijacked by the "aid" profession on the 1980's.
If my HTC Desire (and the Wildfires used by the rest of the family) could be used as a Wiimote on the PC, I might buy a box of games.
I am still waiting for a multiplayer "International Mapouka Challenge" on any platform.

To use a car analogy - its quite obvious no other cars will sell, because Ford makes cars which (sometimes) work!
Some robotic device NSFW, I guess!
Thats fixed it for you!
Where can I buy a smart moose with GPS and bluetooth?
However, if you have to drive a Lada, I recommend drinking the Vodka first.

Either way, I am guessing most people here with think its a pile of piss.

You mean the beans dont come from Peru? My mother should have told me! (I live in the UK, and pronounce both words the same: like the mother of Lee).
No: it tells you he has used Oracle products before, and has not yet recovered his composure. Some people never do!
Nerds know to call it DRM. Ornery folks know "it jest don't blimming work!"
There are organisations where IT != EDS.
Unfortunately, you have not worked in one.
Cos no one can hack into US government computers, not even Gary McKinnon!
But Nollywood and Bollywood are more fun!
Dont let that stop you.
Disclosure: I do not work for the mafia (and if I did, I would not say so here).
You might want to try a better grade of LSD next time!
I suspect a disturbing proportion of Americans confuse "hash" with something smoked by hippies. It may be the problem in France also.
MS may make them, but the customers won't buy them.
