No - Microsoft does that. Moore's law ensures that new computers can perform better at the same rate that MS adds bloat to their software, or marginally faster. By avoiding the use of Windows, I can continue to use my 4 year old PC or ten year old Sparc machines. YMMV

With religion, the deities involved either exist or they don't.

As a Christian I disagree. (Actually, I spend a lot of time disagreeing. Perhaps I am a disagreeable person ;-])

The definition of Deity is a significant issue. I personally do not believe that God is an elderly Jewish gentleman sitting in an armchair, played by Orson Wells. YMMV. I do, however, believe in evolution. A combination of study of biology, and the world around me, and a study of who to trust, as well as a good working knowledge of boolean algebra, enables me to have confidence in my beliefs.

As a European, I suspect a lot of Americans, Christian or otherwise, are completely deranged. A visit to Utah did nothing to disuade me of this suspicion.

My sister-in-law, who is barely even literate, learned to do all that on a Linux system without any effort at all. Not only that, on a dual boot machine, complains if its running Windows cos its "so inconvenient" and the scanner doesn't work. She just asked a series questions like "how do I go on the internet?" and someone showed her. She would have to do the same on any other computer anyway. She continues to ask "where did I save my CV?" quite often.

I am truely grateful that she only has the permissions she needs to save in her own area, and the system takes permissions seriously.
