If you Dell breaks under warranty, enjoy your phone call with some guy from India who's calling himself "Mike" and doing a relatively good job at hiding his accent and chatting about baseball, but is utterly unable to help you resolve your problem in a timely manner.

The hard drive in one of our dell laptops died on Tuesday afternoon of last week. I called support around 4pm and the next morning I had a replacement in hand before 10am.

This isn't unusual, either. When something goes bad, they fix it fast. Dell's business support is the best "big company" support I've ever worked with.

Nope. At best it's the fifth biggest shopping day of the year. The two weekends before Christmas are the biggest.

The discussion above seems to be centered on who should have control of the .za TLD when that isn't really the issue.

I certainly don't have a problem with the South African government controlling the domain, but there is a procedure for them to get control. If they would go to ICANN and follow the procedure all would be happy.

Instead, they seem to be attempting to hijack the .za with no regard to the system that is already in place. Is that really appropriate? ICANN is in charge at this point whether we like it or not. Can we really support nations ignoring the system and doing their own thing?

The bottom line is that the South Africa government thinks that it is above the system. I suggest that they try the proper procedure for acquiring control of the domain. They should at the very least wait to get hostile until they have good reason to be (such as having their request for control rejected inappropriately).

    Yeah, I'm probably wrong though.

At my office, I've been playing with an Agenda VR3 we got from Softfield.com. I've managed to install nmap and tcpdump on it, and the ethernet adaptor is on it's way. This should be a handy tool for network diagnostics. From what I've seen, I will probably replace my Palm with one of these in the near future.

Word to the wise, use only rechargeable NiMH AAAs. This eats alkalines for lunch.

The 16 meg version is $135 and the ethernet adaptor is $95.

Give up on the users. Just do your best to make sure the email doesn't get to them. We're a Novell/Groupwise shop, so we run Guinevere along with Norton Antivirus corporate edition. We get fixes very quickly from Symantec.

Between that and us constantly harping about not opening unknown attachments, things are fairly safe. If there is a problem, it is contained quickly. Bottom line is redundancy. Use several different methods to prevent the initial infection.

Oh, and not using Outlook is very helpful. The groupwise address book is quite safe, since no one uses Groupwise. Who'd write a worm that affects a only couple hundred users? ;)

According to the article, it uses USB to connect to the computer. I would guess that is the reason why it doesn't work with NT and 95. USB support with Win95OSR2 is pretty horrible and it is nonexistant with other revisions.

In Conclusion, Win2000 is supported. I'm 98% certain.

    Prove me wrong.

Retail processors do come with heatsinks already attached,

I have never purchased a retail/boxed CPU where the heatsink was attached. My 1.2 GHz Athlon had the heatsink in the box, but I had to install it myself. Same with the Celeron 366 I bought a couple years ago.

Of course, this is just anecdotal evidence.
