While we are living, we are _mostly_ stuck inside this gravity well - with the exception of our imagination
Only after one dies, that the spirit is freed from the bond of the body - if you believe in the existence of "spirit", that is - and in this gal's case, finally she gets to roam the Universe, without having to strap herself next to a big rocket
Almost every new day I learn of yet-another-3-letter-spook-government-agency in existence
And in the bad-old-days we were told that there were only 2 of them, FBI and CIA, and only one of them were allowed to spook against the citizens of America (that was, FBI)
Nowadays, can someone please tell me now many are out there?
We are no longer at the innocent age where people did not patent obvious things like round corners
In this age that we are living, it won't be long when someone is awarded the patent of breathing, or patent for using O2 for survival, or a photosynthesis patent - the thing that leaves had done for millions and millions of years
The Gooseberry is basically the main board from the wave of 7 and 8 inch android tablets currently coming out of China without the touch screen or chassis
I haven't the time to check, but if anyone is interested they could check reference designs from ARM's site - maybe this board is one of the reference designs provided by ARM to the China White Box cellphone factories
While the Jelly Bean supposed to be for gadgets that have yet to reach market, hundreds of millions of older Android Devices are already at the hands of the consumers
My question is - is it hard for average geek to install Jelly Bean on older crop of Android Devices ?
For some reasons - perhaps subconsciously - my fingers typed out "reign" - and as GP has stated, the subject was "Government" and the word "reign" in a way was still kosher, so I decided not to change anything
And... a DirectX 10 graphics card. I think that's even more implausible than the 1GB RAM. Did they port Office to WPF or something?
Yeahyeah I know, Direct 2D, fancy hardware accelerated text, etc. It's still kind of funny needing a GPU for documents.
Everything Microsoft produce this days are bloatwares which are bloated to the max
With bloatware like these how the hell they can survive in the tablet / smartphone platforms, where the CPU/GPU/RAM specs are much MUCH lower than that of the desktop ?
One of the ways was already outlined by TFA - using intelligence to adapt their behavior to the changing environment
The other way is to evolve, and to evolve very very rapidly - in a shotgun approach - to ensure that _some_ of the offsprings, no matter how much they have changed, would made it through
I've lost the link to that article, and the last time I read that article was years ago
So I could be wrong on the method of dating - it could be something else - but that "5 million year old" thing should be correct, unless, my mind fails me again:)
People must be F'in cheap if they aren't willing to spend 99 cents.
To you it may be merely 99 cents but to someone in India it may mean the income of half a day of laborious work
Some people feel sad at the news of death
I do not

Hopefully this strip is not made in China
I'm crossing my fingers
Google apparently has forgotten something -

FYI :
The holiday comes at the end of the fasting month of Ramadan

The project may be technically feasible, but economically I do not think it makes sense
I hope the Auzzies do a thorough feasibility study before launching it, or someone would end up paying a lot for nothing
I am not discouraging them from carrying it out, I'm just being practical
...an inlaid mahogany chest lined with velvet, mirror balls, and Steve Jobs air fresheners... The lid slides off...
...and Steve Jobs gets out! Gah.
Leave \Steave out of it !!
Slashdot, you never dissapoint.
I am disappointed at your "dissapoint"ment
opening an iPad takes a simple slide of a cover â" a lid that 'comes off easily, but not too easily,'
This brings back memory of the very well thought out packaging that comes with compaq computers in yesteryears
It might not be much, but users DO appreciate the extra thoughts that they put on packaging their gadgets nevertheless

I do know the existence of both words
For some reasons - perhaps subconsciously - my fingers typed out "reign" - and as GP has stated, the subject was "Government" and the word "reign" in a way was still kosher, so I decided not to change anything
Excuse me but I begin to sense hype
Chickens and cows as species are doing phenomenal with no end in the foreseeable future for the sole reason that they are tasty
If taste is the only criteria, snakes taste much better than chickens !!

Who would have thought that word processing needs 1GB of RAM?
Especially from the "640k ought to be enough for anybody" company !
Teach them, young, to be CONSUMERS of content; not creators of it!
You mean, just like the Joe Sixpacks ?
Maybe someone should start writing a new stuxnet variant targetting China's space program?
Sure, but the job of writing it would probably get out-sourced to India. Ya know, the other developing country with an ambitious space programme.
If it ends up with India duking it out with China, It would be doubly wonderful !!
That way we get to kill two birds with only one stone
McDonald is definitely not alone in having episode whereby their employees roughing out customers

Win8, as it is, is not ready
If they really launch it in October, well, I for sure won't want to become a paying guinea pig for M$
I'll wait till Win8.1 comes out, or Win8-SP2, or something like that
I dunno, I could be speaking from my back orifice

You know those inscrutable aliens in sci-fi films that have indecipherable glyphs on the sides of their spaceships: They're Chinese.
Actually, someone found a stone tablet, somewhere near Siberia. They carbon dated it, and it supposed to be like more than 5 millions year old
On that stone tablet were carvings that looks very much like some ancient Chinese characters
I had the link once, but unfortunately I lost it (hard disk crashed).
I tried to search for it, to no avail.
