RIAA studios will just designate one or two of the songs they would otherwise have as "normal" tracks on a CD as the "bonus" tracks to meet the requirements of their half of the quid pro quo.

If this ends up being windows only DRM (i.e. not for OS X, not for *nix), it won't work on anything but a Windows box... nice! They don't really have to do anything to hold up their end of the deal and they get to stick a thumb in Apple's eye all at the same time. (You know they'd like to do that!)

I wonder if the "one good song" on every CD will now be the "bonus" track. If I were MS, that's what I'd be pushing for.

It seems like a natural progression for the device. What I really want to know is what sort of WiFi they're looking into. Will it simply stream music and not video? If Apple does intend for this to stream video as well, as the "article" implies, 802.11* works well enough for audio, but the chop factor gets to be a big problem with video.

No mention of ultra wide band in there. It would be interesting if they tried it though. The iPod might have enough buy-in with consumers to make this technology finally take off.

That was a lot harder to do when your main evidence would have been childrens' (frequently unreliable fact witness) testimony, or grubby pieces of paper passed through dozens of grubby hands and likely lost or destroyed when the joke ended.

Not that I like the idea of childrens' parents suing each other over crap like this, but in the severest of cases, what other recourse do people have. If schools won't stop it, the victim can't and the antagonists won't, a judge may have to.

Remember Gislaine, the star wars kid? People shouldn't have to change schools because other people are maladjusted and have rotten parents.

Or something they're presently doing today with an iPod/Rio/etc. that uses embedded technology to perform the same function but weighs ounces instead of pounds.

People who already own MP3 players probably aren't the target market here, but wouldn't someone who doesn't presently own an MP3 player and doesn't plan on getting one who is buying a new computer be just as, if not more, likely to buy something cheaper and use WinAmp or WMP on it? I'd think this hypothetical person, if s/he cared about music enough would probably just buy an MP3 player anyway.

All anyone needs a judge for is impartial rendering of justice and managing your court experience.

This is why judges get to grant temporary orders. So both sides can get expert witnesses and other types of evidence and testimorny in order so they can make a reasonably informed descision (assuming the judge actually decides this, i.e. bench trial as opposed to jury trial) if it even comes to that before being thrown out. Judges usually aren't idiots. They aren't perfect either, but an armada of expert judges won't improve the situation.

Naturally, there were several conversations going on at the table at once and I was keeping up with the one going on closest to me.

All of a sudden, on of our dinner mates from the other end of the table turned to me and asked, "you know about LSD (referring to the old monetary system: pounds, shillings, pence), right?"

I was a bit shocked by the question, but answered honestly, "well... I tried it once a few years back but it made me really anxious and I didn't like what it did to my mind. I think I'm sticking to beer from here on out."

There was a long 3-second pause in conversation at the entire table, which promptly errupted into about a solid minute of raucous laughter.
