    Thats all folks. It's time we start showing as a community that we're not just a bunch of freeloaders, anarchists & hypocrites.

    Future versions of RedHat Linux are expressly "community oriented" - they don't really expect to make any money off of it (nor should they).

    Their "Enterprise Linux" line (ES AS and WS) is where they'll be getting the cash from. The best way to support them is to make sure your company (and many a slashdotter is in a position to directly influence this) coughs up the (measly) $1,800 for the licenses, rather than installing the latest bittorrented ISO on their servers.

    WTF? We've had to patch that, what, twice? Like, ever? (And the best part is that up2date -u doesn't make me accept 8 different EULAs just to install.

    Here we go again, the FPS given is an average, meaning that if your action game is running at 30, then there are likely times when you are only getting 10 or less.

    Also, getting over 200 FPS is the best way to brag about your awesome hardware and gigantic penis.

    That's pathetic - to think there was actually a time when there were browsers which could be crashed with a simple html tag that's missing an attribute.

    So, what happens in the U.S. if a organization is ever certified as a "religion" by mistake? Is any means available to undo it?

    That's a tough one, we've been struggling with this whole "Christianity" thing for centuries now, and it doesn't look good.

    Um, artificial as they may be, these so called "files" have been around for some time, in fact long before computers. Users can quite intuitively understand the concepts of "file" and "folder." I really think you are trying to make the difference seem greater than it actually is. (on the user side, that is)

    Strictly speaking, it still doesn't. Using InnoDB tables kills most of the advantages of using MySQL, so what's the point?

    I know what those extras are for that database, but knowing OSS development paces, I'm sure the same is the same for PostgreSQL

    I love this! You are plainly saying that you have no idea what you are talking about, and then go on to make some useless generalizations - bravo.

    Postgres is a real database. All those features (almost all, in any case) that Oracle has and MySQL doesn't? Postgres has them. Good replication was one of the last major features that postgres lacked (good full text indexing is another).

    I love MySQL to bits for the stuff it's good at, and use it extensively, but you can't just write off all of its shortcomings when it comes to being an application database to "marketing."

    Dude, you don't get the entire concept of "beta" do you?

    When you fix bugs, you always (always!) introduce new bugs; you release a beta to find and fix the new bugs (and to see if the bug fixes really fixed the old bugs) before you give it to the users.
