  1. Year of the Linux Desktop on HP May Be Developing Its Own Version of Linux · · Score: 4, Interesting

If Linux is going to make it on the desktop this is the way it will happen. Now there is a concentrated effort of programmers (paid ones at that) with a large amount of financial support from a major player in the desktop market.

HP wins because they can now ship a desktop for less and they have more control over the quality of the product which they ship. Win-Win for them unless MS decides this won't do and threaten to increase prices. It will be a long time before a corporate provider of desktops/servers can say no to MS.

Secondly I went to many different schools (dad was in the military) and 3 different colleges/Universities. I can assure you teachers are not well trained experts and I would be very afraid if they were able to collectively decide what to teach or even individually able to make this decision.

There are probably 10 teachers I can think of that I would want to make their own standards. The rest would range from mediocre to TV is a better solution. There needs to be a standard. If you want something else then go to a private school.

I am guessing you thought this all out from your view, but think of the other teachers in your staff meetings and tell me do you really want them deciding what children are taught. What about ID teachers, or Muslim teachers, or FSM teachers?

Not sure what you are doing here on Slashdot. Geeks know that cards to edit movies, create f/x, create art work, and run photoshop are generally not the same cards used for gaming. Those are generally high end workstation graphic cards. Granted you could use a latest generation gaming card to do those same jobs but that would be foolish, and you wouldn't be doing that on a Mac because well they don't do latest generation unless they are upgrading their lineup.

Furthermore you can get a 2nd to last gen card and play most any game except poorly programmed games like Crysis. This goes for Macs as well if the game was released for Mac.

I think you need to read the Bible. The premise of the Bible is Jesus Christ and His death, burial, and resurrection. Given the number of versus referring to predestination and God changing the hearts of men and being able to sway kings I would say the free will is not the premise. The Old Testament points to Christ and the New Testament depicts Christ and His teachings.

If the government needs to create a toll to fund a portion of road then it needs to be 100% equal for all. This will ensure that natural demand drives people to other means of transportation. The government is too corrupt and inept to be put in charge of manipulating drivers to force social change.

While we are talking about VRT systems it should also be noted that only the government should be able to levy a toll. The selling of toll roads to private companies (who did not buy the land or pay to have the road built) should be illegal as it allows for the private owners to increase tolls which maximizes profit but drives motorist to side streets which the government then pays the repair cost on. Note that this will happen with varible rate toll systems as well during peak hours.
