First don't use words like boxen or else no one will take you serious. Second don't say things like "think outside the box" you will sound like a corp crony trying to cover up their ineptitude. Ok what I would do if I where in your shoes
1) Firewalls good(public IPs bad) I inherited the same thing. The user should see no change. Unless they where using now blocked port which they should be working with you on why they would need to use these.
2)I have a hard time believing you can not get the exchange server back up. While a BSD bind/ server was a snap. I think YOU want to have the BSD box (which is fine) but remember you are there to SERVE the USERS not yourself.
3)Exchange is a huge USER satisfier when setup properly
4)disaster recovery should be on the top of your budget.(your a payed admin you should know this stuff)
5) this is your Job do what the users want. I can not figure out why admins think they are any better then the kid who servers burgers at McDonalds. welcome to the service economy do your JOB and smile
for those that don't know the whole "random title " 2 - Electric Boogaloo comes from the movie Breakin' 2 - Electric Boogaloo and has been used by anyone desperate for a laugh.
FYI I am a diabetic. I would rather take the risk of this transplanet then
A)Lose my feet B) Go blind C)Just let this disease slowly kill(heart/cardiovascular disease)
A endocrinologist told me that no matter how well you take care of yourself with this disease you will die of a complication(sparing a death by trauma). My whole life is taking care of this disease it a constant struggle. This is not a take your shot and you are fine disease it is slowly killing any one with it(Inslulin treatment is only slowing this). Oh and yes this procedure has been around for a few years but from what I've read the real cure would be stem cells/gene therapy at least for type one diabetics
The usual worker won't accept that because he/she needs the cash in the nearly future. yep as its always nearly future and My wife keeps telling me she needs money now!
hmm seems to me that you can use both all you want. Be comfortable with 9 different oses, but you are not a dedicated user of either. You could say your a dedicated computer user of the x86 Variety. Google can help you wiht the definition of dedicated
goolge
I'm just afraid of When the next worm/exploit hits phishers(ms) could change the hosts file on a pc to point to a server in singapore. I mean then what do you tell friends and family go and check c:\windows||winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts everytime they need to check their bank accouunt.
I can't beleive in a thread about extreme remote controls no one has brought up Steve (The Woz) Wozniak and the CL-9 C.O.R.E or the Tyrone beam booster. Oh well, it is 2:30am(UTC/GMT -5 hours) any real geek is coding. not staring at slashdot waiting for the jolt high to wear off.
Yes, this is off topic, but since the Slashdot editors think Will's new movie (no disrespect to Isaac Asimov) is more news than a remote vulnerability in the linux kernel I figured I post it here to help everyone who relies on slashdot for there tech news. Here is my rejected dtory. No, this is not spite I don't care who they said posted it as long as the word gets out to help people who are vulnerable.
Over at gentoo security they are reporting a bug found in the 2.6 kernel running IPTables firewall that will let an attacker DoS a vulnerable system by sending a single malformed TCP packet causing the kernel to go into a infinite loop and consuming all of the CPU resources. Adam Osuchowski has a good write up on this bug(as he found it and fixed) at www.netfilter.org
man -k word_you_are_looking_for this will search all man pages for that word. not the best way to find something you don't know the name of, but it could speed things up.
just wondering what format you had your students turn in for said papers? As I'm quessing most student would write this is MS WORD so how the did the script deciphered any images or formatting funk that comes with *.docs ?
ok the rack is very nice but man don't you think that you could have maybe came up with like $30 for a tv stand ? I'm just saying that looks like its going to go tumbling at any given moment. Nice setup(minus the windows screen)though. wish I had that kind of iron.
It is already happening today, in the air, with a "human in the loop". See Predator.
Good point, why not have these Segway soldiers remote control like the Predator? They could save countless lives and One soldier from a remote spot could control a 20 Segway platoon.
with blackhat next week I would guess that a POC will be released then or that everyones to busy working on their blue pill detector
there is a video on google's tech talks by Luis von Ahn in it he talks about this and shows some of his on work in this field.
Steve? Steve Gibson? is that you?

Could you post a link to the source for that project? I'd like to look into how it works. Thanks in advance
If you want to pass your exam and learn about linux I would suggest you take a look at RUTE. You can get your dead tree version here

Man, I spend too much time reading slashdot. These slashcronyms are starting to make sense.

Maybe, it's just me but isn't that statement a bit of an oxymoron ??

Wait, didn't Paul Russell write Netfilter/Iptables?
