it looks great, and i will try it for my account that i use eudora or outlook for...however, i use a hotmail address for my main account (so it can travel wherever with me), and their custom filtering system sucks (if i may say so)...the only things they let you filter on are subject, From Name, From Addr, & To or CC lines...no option to filter on message content, which is where this would be useful...oh well, i guess that's what i get for using hotmail...i should get a real e-mail account...
i agree with you completely on those are the three games to play...i just disagreed with the fact that baccarat is 50/50...in any case, BJ odds can be dramatically increased by playing (and sticking to) basic blackjack strategy...that's what i play when i go to the casinos...a lot of people say that's not fun, becuase you're not really thinking for yourself...you're playing based on some strategy card you have memorized...but i win more times then not...so, i don't mind...
again no...that's not true...the way to look at it is house edge...if the edge is 0%, then the odds of you winning are truly 50/50...in any case, craps and blackjack have the best edge...
Craps (double odds) 0.60%
Blackjack 0.80%
Baccarat (banker) 1.17%
Baccarat (player) 1.63%
Pai Gow Poker 2.5%
Roulette (single zero) 2.7%
Three-Card Poker 3.4%
Let It Ride 3.5%
Sportsbook Betting 4.5%
Caribbean Stud Poker 5.26%
Roulette (double zero) 5.6%
Big 6 Wheel 11.1% to 24%
Keno 25%
actually, the blackjack edge can vary greatly depending on what the rules are in the casino...
(i pulled those stats off a web page..not exactly sure how accurate...but it reflects the order i'm used to seeing)
baccarat does not have 50/50 odds...in fact the oddss in baccarat are still slightly against you...but the house edge is smaller when you bet on the bank actually...a lot of people don't like that, cause you're betting against the player...but it's the way to go in terms of edge...
10. Get rid of deprecated methods - don't be an arse, ruins past compatability with no benefits.
people shouldn't be using deprecated methods anyway...that's why they're deprecated, becuase they may not be supported in future releases...this makes perfect sense...
Eliminate primitive data types - oh yeah, please let me do x = new Int(1) + new Int(3);
did you even read his explanation??? from the article: "The new byte, int, long, double, float, and char classes would still have the literal forms they have today. Just as the statement String s ="Hello" creates a new String object, so too would int i = 23 create a new int object."...the way you use them wouldn't change at all...in fact this would totally eliminate the need to create new Integers, Doubles, Booleans, etc, when you wanted to put primitive things in lists, hashmaps, etc...that's a big pain now...
well, the author didn't specify, where he works, or how he commutes, which is a problem when answering this question...obviously your answer is easy, if a radio is readily available...i'm going to assume that the author must not drive to work, because if he did, he could just listen to the news on his radio as you stated, and not bother asking this question...however, i'm guessing he probably lives or works in a major city, where he takes a subway, etc, making a radio/walkman useless (if he's going to the trouble to ask this)...if this *is* actually the case, then the author does need an alternative to the radio...of course, he could just throw a casette tape in his stereo while he's showering/getting ready for work/eating breakfast in the morning...tape a half hour or hour of the news...and then listen to it with a walkman on the way to work...i dunno, it's just hard to answer without having all the pertinent information....
you know what was missing there? i didn't see anyone claim "first post"...
seriously though, i think it was interesting that the majority of their discussion seemed to be focused around the fact of calculating whether or not 2000 was a leap year, rather then the fact that computers couldn't handle the year 2000 because they were only storing the last two digits representing the year, and not the century...
also, noticed there was a lack of links to the "goatse.cx" website in the thread...
there was an episode of West Wing where that happened...Donna (Josh's secretary) found out that where she had grown up in Minnesota was now considered Canada because of a border change....it ended up she was grandfathered in as an American citizen, and had to take some stupid american history or something test to make it offiicial...
i can see where this could matter to states or municipalities in terms of tax revenues, etc...but when it comes to interfering with people's lives, common sense should be used...for intance, if a kid has been going to a school in one district for a while, then they find out that the family actually lives somewhere different (becuase of a redrawn line), let the kid stay in his old school...make it some sort of grandfather clause...the other things, such as taxes, etc, that's fine...they don't directly effect your day-to-day life...and if the two disputing parties want to sort out who collects taxes and what not from you, that's fine me...of course, i can already see the problem arising where a student goes to school in township A, but his family pays taxes that support schools in township B...i didn't say it was is perfect, but every effort should be made to not interfere with people's daily lives becuase of some poorly drawn boundry line many, many years ago...
I live in the Philadelphia Area and have many friends in the North Jersey/NYC Area...we seem to find that those of us who have Cingular service get much better coverage then those of us who have AT&T coverage (which has been incredibly spotty since 9/11)...we see this especially down the jersey shore, where AT&T customers can frequently not make phone calls, while those of us on Cingular can...
considering their so big on "infringing" on other's electronic rights, and "stealing" and illegal copies of things, there are some nice "gif" images on their website...hmmmm....
wow, didn't they get enough publicity when this story was announced last week...i'm not saying they should have ignored this DOS attack, but it seems to me the RIAA rep had a little too much attitude with quotes like "Don't they have something better to do during the summer than hack our site?" and especially "Perhaps it at least took 10 minutes away from stealing music."...talk about antogonizing the masses...couldn't they comment on this story without being blatantly condescending and arrogant???
on the good side, maybe the link to the RIAA website with this story will slashdot their site and bring it down again....
turn switch 1 on for 5 mins...turn it off...turn switch 2 on...go into the room...the lighbulb that is on is switch 2, the lightbulb that is off & warm is switch 1...the lightbulb that is off & not warm is switch 3...
i don't see this as irresponsible journalism on slashdot's part...slashdot just provides its users with whatever news the editors feel is relevant to reprint...if you want to blame anyone for being irresponsible, then blame the folks over at Linux Gram, who actually reported the story...and from what i read in the story, they seem to have multiple (albeit anonymous) sources...so, i'm fine with slashdot posting this...
yeah, i just had just read the book not too long ago, but did not have it in front of me when i originally posted, and i mixed up who told the hobbits that something was wrong in the shire...then later when i had the book in front of me, i hurridly looked for the quote i needed to support my point, and took it out of context...my fault...in any case, it was butterbur, you both are correct...
now i guess i see what the original poster's point was...in the book gandalf says he's gonna leave to see Tom Bombadil...so, how do they explain that in the movie, becuase the character of Tom Bombadil was never introduced...that's a good question now...
I did lose my focus at the end of the book, however i did catch that gandalf was "openly" wearing the elven ring at the end...but thanx for pointing that out...
I was also at work earlier (and didn't have ROTK in front of me)...but now i do...
Gandalf says...
"I should have warned you before that all's not well in the Shire neither, if what we hear is true. Funny goings on, they say. But one thing drives out another, and I was full of my own troubles. But if I may be so bold, you've come back changed from your travels, and you look now like folk as can deal with troubles out of hand. I don't doubt you'll soon set all to rights. Good luck to you! And the oftener you come back the better I'll be pleased."
so, in the book Gandalf does leave the hobbits and tell them that there are things in the shire that they'll have to deal with...so, it shouldn't be a problem in the movie either...
well, new releases are only done on tuesdays...i've never understood this, but it's the same for movies, CD's, etc...in any case, if both were planned to release in november, then there are only 4 days to choose from for the release, so, there ya go...so, probably just a coincidence...
you're right...i had forgotten about the "Digitally Remastered" versions"...i was only thinking about the "original" and the "special edition" when i posted...yeah, so i guess they did milk some with eps 4,5,6 already...atleast they were only VHS, and didn't cost as much as DVD...
which brings up another good point...did Lucas start all this "special edition" insanity when he re-released eps 4,5,6 to the theaters, and in VHS form as the "sepcial edition"...i can't remember it being widespread before that...
Here's a question, how is Jackson going to get rid of Gandalf so that the Hobbits have to deal with "The Scouring of the Shire" on their own . . . ?
huh? not sure what you mean here...in the book Gandalf basically just tells them that he won't be going back to the Shire with them...and i believe he makes some reference to the fact that the they'll have to deal with anything that's going on there themselves...why would it be any different in the movie???
this brings up a good point...why don't DVDs have the option to turn on/off the added footage, so that you can see the theatrical version, or the special edition?? seems like it would be easy enough...DVDs are already broken up into scenes...so, for those scenes that include additional footage, the DVD just has two versions of the scene, and picks which one to play based on if you previously chose whether to watch the theatrical or special edition...seems easy enough....only downside is then you can't sell two different versions of the dvd...oh wait, that's not a downside for us...only for the movie studio...
nice, that solves my problem, now i can get both versions...
but, won't this just lead to a bunch of geeks with no intention of buying a KIA coming to test drive just to get the DVD? i know that's what i'm gonna do...there's gotta be some sort of catch or fine print associated with it...
it looks great, and i will try it for my account that i use eudora or outlook for...however, i use a hotmail address for my main account (so it can travel wherever with me), and their custom filtering system sucks (if i may say so)...the only things they let you filter on are subject, From Name, From Addr, & To or CC lines...no option to filter on message content, which is where this would be useful...oh well, i guess that's what i get for using hotmail...i should get a real e-mail account...

the "special edition" of LOTR with all the cut footage, etc, comes out Nov. 12th, the same day as AOTC...

just my $0.02, from my experience...

- CowboyNeal
actually, that's not a bad idea...i may submit it myself!i think Bill would run away with it...but still...
