    It's the principle of the thing. What's important is not that it's a 'right' or it isn't one, but that it's wrong to spy on people and use that information to your advantage. Anyway, there is an amendment against unreasonable search and seizure, which is basically saying privacy's a right in 18th century terms.

    If you think that's okay that the government can find and threaten dissent, then whatever, but just because you're paranoid doesn't mean their not after you.

    No no no no, specifications? Rarely are customers so organized. Programmers are given a basic end result which they then have to engineer from what time and technology is avaliable to them. Writing a serious program is much more than understanding for loops. Any complex program nowadays can contain hundreds of classes and files, and the organization and design of these is engineered by the programming team. What's going the their minds is very akin to what an engineer has to consider when planning a bridge.

    A webmaster or a maintenance programmer are code-monkeys. Anyone who actually works on a real projects deserve more respect than that.

    That might be a nice dream for say, a dictatorship. However, as an American, I prefer to dream about freedom.

    Sad truth is, this law is to protect the profits of the telecommunication industry by outlawing more stuff that the company's don't want Americans to have access to.

    My cell phone(Sprint) dies 10 minutes north of the city I now live in(Portland, ME). So they said they have 'coverage', but it's just one tower in this city, and probably no other towers in the state, so it's useless if I visit friends up north.

    Of course, everyone else's cells work fine, I just had to buy from the one company that doesn't give a crap about the area and doesn't share towers.

    Of course, since I'm too lazy to change my phone number and tell everyone a new number who needs to know it, I stay with crappy Sprint. I hope this thing goes through for hard-working lazy people like me.

    I am usually sufficiently gratified when I crush someone I suspect strongly of cheating by knowing it's probably some whiny 13 year old staring at his screen in impotent frustration to not really care about the other 9 out of 10 times he's beat me, not by skill but through some technology he most likely didn't create.

    And then of course, when you finally beat him, he accuses you of cheating. :)

    won the right to be re-released to 800 theatres this Friday. Disney will be announcing plans to re-release the Japanese masterpiece in theatres later today

    Are they saying that it would been illegal for the movie to show in any theatres if it hadn't won an Oscar? Or is this just a deal they had with the 800 theatres? Or an internal Disney thing?

    If it's the former, then that industry is more red-taped than I had thought.
