>Now, back on topic. Any bets on how many days before Napster relaunches that a.nap to.mp3 converter program is released?
How about... never? Because absolutely no one will use Napster or its proprietary format, so there will be no demand for or interest in a converter program?
Milk delivery worked because everyone got their milk delivered back then, almost every day, and there were only a handful of products. You could load up your milk truck with your limited product selection, then drive down the street and make delivery after delivery, day in and day out. You did not have to pick, pack, and ship to bunch of random customers.
It would need some integration with the TV Guide website to get an on-screen programming guide, too. But I think there's a perl script knocking around out there that will get the data from that site in some form.
And is there any good way to get the video output from your box to the TV? I'd rather not have to watch TV on a monitor!
I'm getting tears in my eyes thinking that Suck is going the way of all dotcoms... it was essential reading, every day. Life without Suck... that would suck.. That would really, really suck... Will I never get to meet Polly Ester?
I don't think a "declaration of goodwill" is a promise that you'll only say good things about the movie. It is probably a kind of confidentiality agreement, so you won't leak too many details about what you saw, or sneak a camera into the theater. So don't get your elven underwear in a bunch.
If you can't tell the guy is a freak who is going to blow himself up, you're a fucking idiot. His life's work so far has been to drop out of school, do some worthless shit, and then blow himself up. He and his life's work deserve mockery of the highest degree.
Slashdot's summary bears no resemblance whatsoever to the article.
The article is not about loaning copies of books.
As far as I can tell from the article, which is very poorly written, the publishers' beef is that libraries are distributing electronic copies of journal articles (or large portions of the articles) without compensating the publishers.
This is just another GNUtard "information wants to be free" button-pusher. Slashdot sucks. It really, really sucks.

The growth of the surveillance state is likely to continue, because there is not much of an organized contiutency for privacy and freedom.
We are up against Big Government, which uses hysteria over drugs, terrorism, violent crime, child endangerment, etc. as an excuse to increase its power over the individual; Big Business, which wants to maximize the value of their investments by eliminating risk and unpredictability; the Big Left, which wants to reprogram your minds to achieve a race-free, gender-free society; and the Big Right, which wants to win your soul for Jesus. They all want to track your movements, browse your hard drive, read your mail, and monitor your thoughts if they could. That's a lot of opposition.

>Why does the dot-bom industry think that the standard laws of business (like profit) don't apply to them?
I think they know now that it does.

Yes it does. It runs on the S/390, which is an IBM mainframe.
Linux runs on mainframes, so I'm not sure I understand the distinction being made here.

And lobster thermidor au crevets done in the Bernaise style with a fried egg on top and Spam.
This is the funniest post I've seen on Slashdot. There should be a BOSD (Best of Slashdot) page where stuff like this could be enshrined. Kudos!
OK, since they don't teach this in school any more, I'll try to explain.
One's is a contraction of "one is," or the possessive of "one."
Ones is the plural of one.
I see the Agenda has an IrDA port, and a TCP/IP stack, so is it possible to set up a LAN between a workstation and the Agenda over the IrDA port?
"Buy goods with patriotic sell..." What is that from? Zappa?
It could happen.
Three years ago, you could have gotten about $20 million in venture capital funding for that.
Oh, it doesn't make any fucking sense no matter how you spell it. Unless you do as much acid as the Beatles were doing right around that time.

I haven't noticed any such problems, and I install Cooker RPMS all the time. So they must have cleaned up their act.
