So you're saying that if you wanted to sue CBS because you thought CSI was too graphic, you should be able to file a motion, and CSI would have to submit a TV show and the judge would look at a show and decide if it was okay?
That doesn't sound like too bad of a system. Then, after considering my case, the judge should rule that my lawsuit is a nuisance suit and award CBS with legal fees (paid by me) and dismiss the suit with prejudice so that I cannot re-file. And the judge should call me a knucklehead. And let the CBS legal team kick me.
Think about it, for example, if a criminal is robbing a store in Canada, that criminal will not have the mentality that it will be a life or death situation, since most people don't carry guns.
In Canada, the criminal will rob your house when you are home. In the US, he will rob your house when you are not home because he knows you can kill him if you are home (at least everywhere but the northeast).
Personally, I'd rather be robbed when I am NOT at home so that I am not killed. If you take away the guns, then the criminals will just come in your house, rape your wife, rob you, kill you whatever. The purpose of taking away guns is to make the general public into better targets for crime. Personally, I'd rather the criminal think I might have a gun.
Wait, what? Steve Jobs is talking about _girls_? And he works at _Apple_?
Apparently he talks about girls and dating all the time. He once made an analogy about Apple and not marrying your first girlfriend. Also, he dated all kinds of celebrities like Joan Baez and Diane Keaton before he was married. So, if someone at Apple is going to talk about girls, I guess it might as well be Steve Jobs.
That's basically what Jobs has done all along. He's shown that he's never one to completely disregard in the future what doesn't work today. He's just a perfectionist and doesn't want to throw in the latest bells and whistles until he feels it is ready for your everyday user to consume. That's one thing that Microsoft doesn't get--they want the most features possible and so they end up releasing a lot of stuff, that while it sounds cool, often doesn't work as advertised until a couple of service packs later.
I can tell you exactly how this happens too. Some Microsoft Program Manager writes down a feature, like "Wireless song sharing" and presents that to the developers. The developers implement the feature in the most cheeseball way possible because they are under extreme time pressure from the Program Manager. Then, the PM checks it off of his list and tells his boss that they implemented the checklist features.
At Apple, things work differently. The developers put in the feature, they try it out. They see if it really works in real life. If something isn't working, it doesn't make it into the iPod. If something like this gets in front of Steve, he will tell the developer that "this feature is shit" and it will either get fixed or get removed. The difference between the two companies boils down to better leadership at Apple, better management at Apple, and better taste at Apple.
Or that they just don't notice the DRM problem until they suffer a fatal hard drive crash?
This problem has to do with the fact that hard drives can be unreliable, but it has nothing to do with FairPlay. True, with CDs, the box of CDs in your closet is your backup. But if people are willing to back up their data, then this is not a problem. In fact, Apple is introducing a new back up system with Leopard that is more user friendly, so it isn't as if Apple were not trying to address these problems.
Fred Phelps (the "God hates fags" guy) behaved in a very similar manner to Jack Thompson over a long period of time. Eventually he was disbarred. Jack Thompson will probably get himself disbarred eventually.
Who's occupying who's land again? Who's commiting mass murder and instauring an Apartheid state?
The "jordanians" are occupying land that the UN gave to Israel. Also, you can't murder a muslim because murder only applies to humans. When the so called pallestinians (actually exiled jordanians) celebrated in the street following the 9/11 attacks, it became clear to most americans that they are the problem. In my mind, the only answer to all this is to hunt down and exterminate the filthy muslims. Islam is a particularly evil form of satanism.
Now, according to their lessons, google with all their betas must be a rightout disaster, shouldn't it?
I have yet to find a Google beta product that didn't work or that was difficult to understand exactly what it did. PowerTalk is another story. I never totally understood what it did (what it was supposed to do) and it didn't work. And I was a Mac power user (i.e. religious fanatic fanboy) at the time who would have bought almost anything Apple was selling within reason. And I didn't understand PowerTalk.
He'd never actually send anyone he cared about into war... just the poor kids who have no other way to pay for school and hoped the military service would offer it.
Actually, I read that after you join the military, the "pay for college" thing turns out to have many catches that actually prevent most people from being able to actually go to college. It is kine of like using a coupon or getting a rebate on a product you buy - sometimes you can get it and it IS actually possible, but more often than not they will cheat you out of it.
think it is because most readers graduated from our failing public school system.
Go fuck yourself.
Sony would not be in business if they operated this way.
That's the way they are headed. They are a large company and they have kind of a long glide path, but the way they are currently behaving is not condusive to their continued existence.
I doubt Sony feels this way internally
How individual employees feel I'm sure depends on where they speficially work at Sony and what they do. Of course, they want the company to do well and improve. I did when I worked at Sony.
but they have to put on a good face because A LOT is at stake. This isn't some small product that Sony is putting out there. The company employs a lot of people, and many jobs are at stake if Sony makes too many mistakes.
That's right. I'd hate to see my friends laid off because of Sony's mismangement -- oops I already did see them laid off last year due to Sony's mismanagement. Too late, I guess.
Obviously they aren't exactly "off" when the second display is being used - they are in some kind of special lower power mode. However, I think this is a cool idea. I have definiately heard of it before this (possibly it was mentioned at WinHec?), although I haven't seen one before.
Too bad I can't get an OS X laptop with this feature.
I remember that Infocom had the most awesome packaging.
Also, the article slams the packaging for the Atari 400/800 version of PacMan, but I loved that packaging when I was a child. It was very nice. The Atari games often had elaborate stories and artwork that felt like it was adding to the game in a significant way.

The funny thing is, the libtards attribute that behavior to conservatives (which you do see some of), but THEY are the real culprits.
You must be new here. And by "here", I mean "politics", not "slashdot".
That's right - not enforced by law. Enforced by Wal-Mart.
But wait a minute...I thought Wal-Mart was the President of the United States? Is he the Supreme Court now?
Very funny. I really enjoyed that.
I'm sure there'll be no chance of pressing the wrong button.
All the buttons on the Zune are the wrong button.

There are plenty of windors users who like to know everything that is running, all processes and services.
Some Mac and Linux users want to know what's running too.

Adobe hates the term 'photoshopped'
Would they prefer people start calling it "gimped"?

and getting jumped on by Brazilians for posting in English in a forum marked "Language: English".
Yeah, that fucking pisses me off! It makes me want to start a rumor that Brazil was behind 9/11 so that Bush will fucking nuke Brazil!!!11!!1!
That's not just not for teenagers though
Right - It's for teenagers and losers!

Obviously Johnny needs to learn to cover his online tracks a bit better.
If they didn't do it, there would be a draft and you would be rolling the dice.
If there is a draft, I'll be in Canada.

Maybe if AquaSciences can sell this stuff to Israel, they won't try again to capture the Litani river in Lebanon...
Arabs are too stupid to know what to do with a river.

Depends on where you live in the US. Electricity in the Pacific Northwest tends to be cheap, the northeast tends to be more expensive.

As long as you buy it, Sony doesn't give a shit whether it will overheat at your house or not.
Plus, if you leave it OFF, it won't overheat!
Also, if you are using it indoors, then you probably aren't providing proper ventillation.
Either way, it can't be Sony's fault because by definition the PS3 is perfect!
