In what way are space colonies a failed technology? Surely the ISS and Mir are both examples of succesful space colonies, well Mir is, ISS should be barring something major going wrong, that or someone patenting something like "a mechanism for launching humans into space using combustion" or such like. Even if you take colonies to mean Lunar/Mars bases then they really shouldnt be too long in coming. Assuming the US gov stops spending so much money on getting you lot cheaper petrol and starts funding something worthwhile.
Youve never met anyone whos tried to use their intelligence against you? That sounds like something out of AD&D, but you know what i mean, in my experience theres a significant minority of inteligent people who are basically just dicks, but then, i suppose theres also a significant minority of peolpe in general that are. I found the trick was being able to tell the difference. And wtf? you had a library in your elementary school? I didnt go anywhere with a decent library till, ooh, year 8/9 best we had before that was the district Library Van, basically a load of books in the back of a transit done up like a library. Had a nice collection of clarke and asimov though, well, after i pestered the woman that ran it to get me some. Belive the first copy of Lord of the Rings i read came from there.
Im sure youre just trying to joke, but i think its important to remember that not all kids who get bullied are into computers. And that even those who are would prob be scared of retaliating in such a direct fashion, i mean, itd be a bit obvious who it was who cracked the website set up specifically to take the mickey out of them.
I found exactly the opposite, i got loads more trouble from the more intelligent bullies at school, the dim ones are easy, a reasonable amount of wit or a bit of sarcasm can usually confuse them enough to be embarress them. I found it was the verbal abuse from people about the same intelligence as me that hurt the most. Physical bullying wasnt much of a prob though, suspect cos im a reasonably large (as in well built, not as in sysadmin) kind of guy.
Well no, being kids kind of makes most of them irresponsible drivers. Im 20, so i speak from experience. I know its dangerous to make generalisations, but you cant argue with the fact that the great majority of young males are very irresponsible drivers, especially those with access to reasonably, or in some case very fast cars. Dont know what its like in Oz, but thats what happens here (UK).
I concur, i dont think any rpg ive ever played has had one of the main characters die outright, certainly not any of the recent ones, and definately not one of the player controlled chars. There usually just respawned in some way. Thats not even a new feature in non rpg games, when was the last time your char died outright while playing quake III or UT or the like?
Like i said, i dont know for certain, but i think probably the going into the west ending will be in there anyway It does provide something of a nice, and they all lived happily ever after ending. Not to imply thats a bad thing. Then again, it may be pretty hard to explain why theyd all sail off to 'heaven' as it were.
Theres other bits in there too that i think wil be lost, IIRC theres been no mention so far of bilbos book, which is actually one of my favourite parts of the book. Anyway, i suppose this is all just conjecture, well find out in 36 days wont we?
I remember hearing rumours some time ago that the entire scouring of the shire bit would be cut, though i suppose that doesnt preclude the inclusion of the sailing into the west bit. Theres a scene in the trailer that looks a hell of a lot like aragorn heading into the paths of the dead. And Shelob is definetly in there. (how could she not be, its a great excuse for some cg).
Don't remember seeing anything in the trailer about denethor, its possible he may be cut/saved for the extended edition as i would imagine it would be difficult to develop his character properly, unless Jackson does the same as with Faramir.
Yes, but they are also an independent regulator, as in non government or industry funded, from their website:
As our name suggests, we're independent of the Government and of the broadcasters. We are funded by fees from our licensees, of which there are around 300 who between them hold nearly 600 licences.
Just an aside all the telecoms regulators are getting amalgamated soon, dont know if this is a good or bad thing really, suppose someone must think its good. In the tradition of all British regulators its going to be OFCOM
Macs arent PCs, at least not in the way most people understand the term, they're macs, they might be personal computers, but then so is the pocket calculator i have next to me.
Who cares who it was? The ad made a blatantly false and misleading claim and got banned for it, thats the ITCs job. Its called the Independent Television Commision for a reason.
1/ I know a few people with iPods that do plug them into their stereo, where you can hear that those things are not hi-fi.
Of course they arent hi-fi, neither is your pc, nor will it ever be, the high signal/noise ratio of even good quality sound card systems ( high compared to proper hi-fi equipment anyway) coupled witht the need for noisy fans, hard disks etc mean that pcs arent hi-fi quality equipment.
2/ It's nice to not have to convert your music to lo-fi to put it on your portable music player.
Surely this is a moot point? I encoded my entire collection at 160/192 depending on the style of music, and i have around 12gb of music, still pushing a week, small enough to go on the smaller iPod without recompression and with plenty of elbow room.
With the noise from my pc, coupled with the loss in quality from the soundcard, i struggle to even tell the difference between 160 and 192 for most music, even through my hi-fi.
That said, I wrote a script that converts my hi-fi MP3s (that I'm too lazy to re-encode) and OGGs to lo-fi MP3s as it transfers them to my flash MP3 player... But I paid $35 for it, which is a bit less than my SO paid for her iPod... I expect more from the iPod.
How many non geeks could do this? And your SO does get more out of her iPod, even at a decent quality i imagine she can fit at least 20x more music on there. Not to mention the fact that she doesnt have to wait around while her mp3s re-encode.
In a market as competitive as the console one is at the moment Nintendo could really use that extra 1%.
You have to remember that especially at the 20+ age range the amount of time you can spend round at your mates house playing console games is severly limited, times like that id appreciate an online mode. Sure its not quite the same, but it would be nice to have one.
If you were going to use pair creation then i belive there is a theory that you get this sort of thing on the fringes of black holes. (May or not be true, read in Brief History of Time).
As they are trying to build a particle accelerator that can make black holes, hey presto, instant antimatter. Just watch the black holes decay then catch it. This kind of thing is the reason why small black holes are so short lived, they shrink as they create the pair.

What you mean like these kind of engines? Or maybe one like this?
