Why should Ctrl-N open a new tab? That would be really poor design, mainly because every single application ive ever used a keyboard shortcut to open a new window in has it mapped to Ctrl-N. Just because it has tabs doesnt mean you have to use them for everything. I often have a couple of windows open with multiple tabs in each one.
Ctrl-T opens a new tab by the way. Ctrl-click opens a link in a new background tab, Ctrl-Shift-click opens it in a foreground tab.
How about getting one of those home weather stations and just sitting it next to your box? A quick google got prices around $300 though. If youre feeling really cheap you could just buy one of the many Temperature sensing add ons meant for Overclocked PCs. IIRC you can get ones that can be monitored in software. Then just cludge yourself together a remote interface for it.
AS others have said, this is not the same thing. Im talking about something like the way its done in windows. (Little slider to change resolution, resizes maximized windows etc). Using KDE the only way ive found to change resolution in an anything like friendly manner is in the control center, and that requires you to restart X. Not to mention making your XF86Config look, well, not particularly tidy.
My point entirly. Its not that you cant do it, it just doesnt work out of the box, which was my point. Joe Average isnt going to want to muck around installing the new KDE or something so he can change screen resolutions, hes just gonna say: 'Sod this, Windows does that straight away'
X is good, but, it still lacks a lot of features that make it unsuitable for the desktop. Changing resolution on the fly springs to mind as one thing it cant do. Coupled with the fact that you need to know what youre doing pretty well to get it running. I mean, how many people do you think know the horizontal refresh rates their monitors run at? Hell, what percentage of users know what kind of video card they have?
Here in the UK AOL broadband can be either 512k ADSL or 600k cable depending on where you live. They have deals with the telcos to provide modems and the like. So basically you get an AOL branded version of the providers basic service. They also do a 1mb version, which is only for those who live in cabled areas. Pretty damn pricey though, Im getting 1mb cable for the same price as their 512k, and i still get the free modem and things. (NTL)
All that information is still there, what 2 clicks away? If your gonna MS bash then at least pick something thats actually really bad, its not like its hard.
They seem to be confusing the minimum age requirements with recommended requirements, for example, from there 2002 list, Burnout 2, which they list as being marketed at children aged 6 and up. Hell, what kind of uber 6 year olds are these weirdos breeeding? If they have the reaction and motor skills to play high speed racing games at 6 then they should be on some special air force training program!
And whats with the crap about enter the matrix? Theres no content in there thats too graphic for teenagers. Just because its based on an R rated, whatever the hell that means, im assuming its about equivalent to 15 over here in the UK. Hell, Super mario bros got a PG rating, why arent they getting all anal over Super Mario Sunshine, Luigis Mansion, or Double dash being sold to ten year olds? Because theyre talking crap, thats why.
I realise ill be preaching to the choir here somewhat, but people like this really get on my tits.
But the theory of evolution and the big-bang theory are taught in schools.
Maybe thats just me being misinformed then. I imagined that stories like this and also this were correct.
the creation story is not taught in public schools anywhere in the US.
What? You don't have religous studies classes? That disturbs me somewhat, though it would explain americas attitudes to other religions. I mean if you dont get taught about the of more than 75% of your population what chance have you got of knowing about things like Judaism and Islam?
I realize that, i was just trying to point out how daft the numbers are, i severly doubt that my PC has 5000% the performance of anything above maybe i dont know, a first gen pentium. Whats wrong with just saying, yes your computer will run this game, or yes your computer will run this game well.
I was quite impressed to learn that my PC has exactly 808% of the power of a 500mhz Athlon, despite the fact that when running a different game it has 5538% of the power of a PII 400 system, (Tron 2 to Warcraft 3)
theres some stuff about it here (from the article) but it doesnt say anything of use appears to be vapourware at the moment, itll prob be some proprietary activex thingy like windows update when it does appear though.
But who cares about the Kinder ads being dubbed over? They did make the one good one that was obviously english (for that digusting biscuity thing they made, beano or something), where else has corner shops like that? But who cares anyway, the dont need to advertise kinder surprise, theyre the best thing ever. Me and my housemates are on about 2 a day each i think. Who needs advertising when theres an entire generation of people absolutely addicted to the things? And who the hell thought of those stupid statueette things, I want a construction toy dammit! Not a little plastic gnome, or a jigsaw or some such.
You think Anheuser-Busch makes different kinds of beer to go in Busch, Bud, and Michelob? Hell, i wouldnt be surprised if Bud light is just the same as Bud, but with 'extra ingredients' (read water) added.
In what way have the Germans admitted what went on? This kind of thing isnt taught in schools. And even now it has laws in place to prohibit anybody talking about nazism. I know this is about Austria, but IIRC Germany has in place similar laws.
Yeah, but they arent taught about equally if more fundamental things like evolution, or the big bang. A decent proportion of the worlds most powerful nation growing up thinking the world was made in 7 days? Don't get me wrong, ive got no problem with people beliving in it, but when people dont even know theres anything else because they arent taught it in school? Surely thats pretty bad?
Are they? I don't know, cant use it being in the UK, should have been a pound sign in front of that 10 but Slashcode appears not to like them. I agree that DRM is never going to be a 100% effective way of making people do what apple wants with the music, simply because they cant control the playback environment.
Ive never got the whole burning to CD then ripping again reduces quality. I mean i know in theory your doing a lossy thing twice, but if you re-encode with the same codec does it actually pick new data to discard from the stream? Or does it just think, "wow, this is easy to encode" and get on with it?
Dont get me wrong on this, Im no way in favour of DRM. But if people are going to buy things from IMS then they know its got it. Its not the same as me buying a CD and finding i cant play it on my PC. Not by a long stretch. Now, if apple didnt tell you they use DRM on IMS then id agree that its only fair to expect to be able to use it elsewhere, but they dont, so i wouldnt.
I havent read the license agreements on IMS, but I'm sure there wil be something in there about you only buying the right to play the music on one PC, and your iPOD of course. Whatever the Slashdot crowd thinks about whats fair use and what isnt, its whats in the license that has to stand up in court. The situation is different with CDs because they dont come with a license agreement.
You dont want to be bound by Apple's DRM, buy CDs, just wait a couple of months after they come out when the price inevitably drops to about 10, which isnt really a lot, in most cases its prob cheaper than what you'd pay on IMS, for a decent sized album at least.
Surely this Covers the climbing up stairs thing, not to mention the reaching high places, as well as not looking quite so conspicuous as being carried round by a dirty great robot when youre out shopping.
Whats to say that the ships in Star Wars/Trek dont expend the energy of a small nuclear blast? Its not that inconcievable if theyre powered by fusion reactors. I mean have you seen the horsepower those warp cores can pull with a performance air filter and a bit of nitrous? You wouldnt belive how many if i told you.

I belive the default password is password, but ive never used it. Any XP machine ive used has always had it changed immeadiatly with net.

With a few of these and one of these you'd have a way cool case.
Who needs cold cathodes?
What you mean like Viewtiful Joe? (without the flash intro still a flash website though). This is seriously one of the most entertaining games I've ever played. Or maybe more like Super Smash Bros?
