People I would even agree to give 5% of my bandwidth to "refresh" the website all the time. Now all we need is a little demon to do it 24/7,
anybody up to coding ?
But the program code runs in the machine native
code, not being reinterpreted every time the
program has to ran. As opposed to Java VM which
does reinterprest the program code every time.
The VM thing keeps appearing in discussion of.Net
technology.
Now before somebody starts accusing me of being
pro Microsoft, let me say I have used Linux,
installed it several time, recompiled the kernel...ect.
Now returning to the VM thing, and that is the place
where I believe Microsoft outdone Sun. There is no virtual
machine. Everything runs on the machine NATIVE code. The
first time the program starts up it is translated,
into NATIVE code. So the only thing that (will be)
slower is the FIRST and only the FIRST start up of
the program.
So again to iterate the issue, there is no Virtual
machine. Everything run on native code.
Now another couple places where Microsoft again
outdone Sun (and must note, all because Sun sued
Microsoft, for all the right reasons though).
The common language run time is a standard and can
be implemented else where (Mono comes to mind).
The thing that converts to native code (JIT) is also can
be made for specific platform. Meaning some company can make
there own VCR and JIT for it and whatever program was made
will run on the VCR (if you do not like VCR in the example
replace it with something else)
So what stops Microsoft from taking over the world,
well that's the scary thing: almost nothing....
The answer to your comment, just look at the commment before you:
"With a little marketshare, Apple would be the classic example of a monopoly (considerably more than Microsoft is.) Apple controls everything, from the fabrication of the hardware, to the retail outlets (with enough balls to operate their own, and require licensing for everyone else.)"
Here is couple quotes from the article:
"We're the only company that owns the whole
widget-the hardware, the software and the
operating system," he [Jobs] says. "We can take
full responsibility for the user experience. We
can do things that the other guy can't do."
Well if Apple did succeed, and would have more
market share, then everybody would call them the
"Monopoly", is not it?
And any way, some time ago I heard a saying :
"Do you really believe that running Microsoft
Office on MacOS is really thinnking different?"
I really do not think things are like that.
The US goverment (as all other goverments) is a big layzy beast, which does not move until is poked,
What is REALLY scarry (and frightening as you noted)
that some organization (RIAA and/or MPAA ???) capable
influencing the goverment in such great extent
(and boy as you noted the goverment moved pretty quickly).
Still I think the frightening part is that organizations got the goverment in their pocket, and
nobody talks about it !!!
"pretty immature when he was involved with a different staff member every month"
I find this statement a bit unclear: was it immature on his side or was it immature on their side ?
Well this totaly differnt issue, If they (cable companies) would say that they do not provide any technical support for VPN related problems.
What they are saying is that no VPN activity is allowed through there network, and that's what ticks me (and seems everybody else who is reading this post) !!!
If I was Microsoft I would be so fed up with
everything everybody (users, goverment, states
and etc) requests, and everytime somebody comes up
with a new twist.. Yes even if I was Microsoft
(Bill Gates if you care) I would quit all
together sell the damn stock and wash my hands
off. If you (users, goverment, states and etc) do
not like me so much, well there you go, I am out
of the picture.
Specifiacally for this created/. account to add
my 0.02 $ on that topic (not that's a big deal
but anyway).
MathWorld is great resource, one of the most
useful and easy to understand. Really missed it
while it was closed down. At least somebody takes
time to organize the mathematical knowledge in a
down to earth way (and give it out for free).
