Picasa has made excellent decision to NOT modify the original image unless specifically told so by the user.
The previous poster may be unaware that every modification/save cycle will reduce the quality of image stored in the JPEG file (Google/Wikipedia this).
And if you (or you grandma) wants to send the picture, there is email function right in the picasa. On the other hand if you decided to do more serious processing (ex. in Photoshop) your best quality original file is still there.
Who has time to read these speculations.
Who here cares what Win7 *should include*...
given history of features taken out at the last moment -- wake us up when Win7 does include it.
If you dig a bit more from the above link you find
this.
Which in short shows that execution time is exactly where it was a year ago.
I can understand it's an overall test which does not take into account
specifics, but it also shows that "entire realm of open-source software
could get a performance boost" will not going to happen (makes me think
that that "could" is there on purpose).
Another clue is that the article begins with "software is built with GCC,
a compiler that converts a program's source code--the commands written by humans
in high-level languages such as C--into the binary instructions a computer
understands". First reaction: "Doh!, i knew that", and at this point it hits
me, today is Monday and as you know magazines (online or not) must publish
articles to survive.
What's a bit more disappointing that old-trusty/. swallows the bait,
if you dare to check gcc website you'll
notice that there are no changes as there are no news (real people are actually
working and update it when job is done).
Another surprise that nobody notice they these taxes would be in addition to taxes paid on the pump, i's not like pay taxes per miles or pay taxes per gallon it BOTH!!!
Now i am not a pro in SMTP protocol so correct me if i am wrong.
Speaking from a simple point of a DSL subscriber, when i want to send email i have to login with my login/passwd into the assigned SMTP server. Once I login all messages I sent have my name stamped on them.
Now if i would choose to send spam, it could be easily blocked just by black listing the name stamped on the messages.
So, now the 64B$ question: why in the world many SMTP servers allow a spammer to sign in with one name and send emails with a different "from" name???? (note, that it seems to be not a problem of DNS but SMTP).
(now, before we get into a war, I do see some scenarios that would require that, but they represent much smaller fraction, and could be taken care by some trust relation between a limited number of mail servers, or is not it?)
I had exactly the same story: winxp system, several hard drives. Reboot and out of the blue one of the drives no longer formated -- 120 GB gone....
Tried this and that... finally found R-STUDIO and (still with some pain) it found everything. Extracted the data, formated the drive: no bad sectors found. Seems like OS (winxp?:) forgot to flush the main file table.
One feature I do love about makefiles and (g)make is parallel builds -- finally the SMP machine is getting used to the max (incredibild -- build over network is somewhat silly when you have another 3 CPUs sitting idle).
MS debugger is VERY good, you seem to be more familiar with gdb (which has its own advantages, ex. integratable into other aps such as Eclipse), and the problem you mention about "watching" the value of the pointer is not a problem of VS but RTFM problem.
"Studio is for a bunch of other things, like VC++" That's the point VS is for lots of things. This reminds me the argument of OpenGL vs DirectX, which falls crashing down when graphis written with OpenGL but for input or sound have to use another API: DirectInput or DirectSound.
Now not to say VS is perfect (batch builds using msdev or vs.net are possible but not that flexible, but again maintenance of makefile over the life of the project is not that great either).
Overall MS tools have good ratio of quality vs price.
Now I am glad to see this posted. The only thing I dont understand is this is not stated louder by everybody.
I mean on average the distance traveled is VERY much proportional to the gasoline consumed. So if one [CA] wants to tax according to mileage, add tax to gas.
The only reason i see for the "GSP tax" is that they need another place to milk the same cow (umm, no pun intended), since gas taxes are already to high. Paying 30-50$ per gas stop is a bit of a sticker shock (for me at least).
Because SMTP allows that _by default_ we have the current problem with SPAM. I dont see why SMTP protocol is not changed to "fix" this and get rid of spam all together.
As for the feature you mentioned, it should be per user request and preferable not free.
#text# In 1970, government tests on the site showed a blast would hurl a 1,000ft wide column of water, mud, metal and munitions almost 10,000ft into the air.
The shock of the blast would shatter almost every window in Sheerness and damage buildings.
The explosion would also generate a 16ft high wave that could sink a small craft. #/text#
where did poster get the "with predictions of a 3 kilometre high wall of mud"????
But I distinctly remember couple of ads on TV. They irritated the hell out of me (the stupidity is just dazzling, but cuz i dont like it, i could not stand them)
So now every time i pass by the store that was advertised, i get irritated every time. And guess what... i am not shopping there, ever.
The same goes for X10 cam, not buy them or anything that has any relationship to them.
The whole thing was done exactly with this purpose, but I think it can be used to break the system. If enough bots (and bots only) constantly "click" on the ads, their price will plummet. Since now they cannot tell if a person saw the ad, they "pay per click" becomes pointless. (and boy they will be mad when find out they paid all that money for nothing)
On the other other hand if every slashdoter would ping the thing it would be way more fun. Come one everybody just type : ping 64.94.110.11 (at -t if you are in windows)
Now the big difference here is that this spam message contained the actual working return address.
Spam messages i get have a bogus return address, so that's not fair to compare. By the way if could find the emails of my spammers they would not be happy either, and telephone lines would have nothing to do with it.
Everything has its time and place. This is not news this more of a programming question.
"Can.Net really scale" now if that was backed up by articles of so and so, benchmarks of such and such, that would be cool.
Lets keep programing questions in programing forums, so when i have programing question i know where to go, because looking for answer for (agh) programming questions on news sites just does not sound right.
The article said that there will be benchmarks. And there are none. A screen shot of a game does not qualify. I want to see the whole spec or at least the basic ones. And after that I can look at the game snapshot.
Moderator seriously why this posted with such a misleading title?
Stop this 16GB as maximum nonsense!

Finally somebody is sane around here, would somebody mod this up

Umm, OpenGL vs DirectX was a simile to VS vs x.
(btw, SDL is a great software package)
Hmm, posting as AC defiantly shows the power

www.mobiledia.com ? or slashdot.com since when
is this consumer electronics review site?
I dont mind a post about consumer electronics, but hey 6820 has been out for a while.

And if they are not what would stop the number of (bus) to go up?

It just occured to me, it is still a question how for "itching/scratching" will get us compare to the insentive of cold/hard cash.
