    The users I manage are completely unpredictable. Not to sound like a Luddite, but there is no technology that will ever predict what my users do. If there is a way to do it, it will be done. Millions of monkeys with millions of typewriters, and that is a great analogy for what I have seen...

    why is this news? Of course DRMP embedded in stuff will slow the stuff down. Running virus protection takes processor cycles too, so security == overhead there.

    The economy right now is far stronger than it was 10 years ago. That was 1992. The economy right now is far stronger than it was 20 years ago. That was 1982. From the perspective of someone born in 1966-1975, how has the economy fallen?

    While not a microsoft fan by any stretch, I don't think this is necessarily a bad idea because of this: Now, when a hacker/virus/trojan attacks, maybe Microsoft will have to accept some accountability, after all I am paying for the security. As it is now, we get hit by nimda, microsoft is not really liable for any damages. If I am paying for security, maybe they would be liable. Just a thought.

    In the 80s when the japanese auto makers were killing us in the markets, we led a coup there. Hmm, we didn't do that either. Kuwait? We put back the same government that was there before saddam attacked. Check your history... when have we EVER installed a pro-american government in order to obtain resources? We have done so for other reasons, mostly to replace totalitarian dictatorships with democracy. But we have never done this to get resources.

    Okay, you have massive amounts of this raw data. I have always thought the problem isn't the collection of the data but rather the mining of the data. Am I wrong? and I didn't see anything beyond the data collection in the article.

    Usually I say it is trivial to bypass almost any security measure, but after reading the article, it sounds like this one could be tough to crack, as these are not 'normal' off the shelf CDs

    Fortunately for /. type people, I bet these CDs will be expensive enough that they wont be used en masse by CD publishers...
