    It is not about how long does it take to trace. The thing is, once you made a call, there will be a record created at every relay server you passed through and eventually it will be possible to find the exact device you were calling from or, for a cellphone, your approximate location. No need to stay on the line.

    There is no secret team on the bench. The most qualified people are already working on it. All that would change would be the bank account their paychecks are drawn from.

    For the sake of the argument, lets assume that this is true. The thing is that right now they are acting in the best interest of the small group of TEPCO investors. If government hires them, they will be acting in the best interest of the government and -- presumably -- public. This is a critical difference.

    Imagine the only plausible alternative. If we drop out of the game who is going to veto Russia? The UK? France? Russia's neighbor? C'mon let's get real here.

    Two things. First (continuation to the question above), why do we care? Second, what exactly did Russia propose, that US vetoed, in recent years? Are those things as serious as starting a freaking war halfway across continent?

    May be OT, but the headline of the TorrentFreak post is awful. Just tried to post it to G+ and my post reads "Comcast threatens to sue TorrentFreak for Copyright Infringement", which totally does not capture the problem. /. headline is much better.

    Second, I did not set myself a goal to provide you with the most accurate and up to date statistics. I don't care about it. The point was that if you do, the numbers are out there and freely available, if one cares to look for them. Obviously, you don't, and just came here to whine.

    It actually depends on a bunch of other market conditions which are not easy to measure.

    1. You assume that when you legalize prostitution the demand will stay the same. Not necessarily so. The spike in demand may make the slaves even more profitable.
    2. It may make it easier to cover the illegal actions. Similar to like it is easier to sell illegal drugs where some "light" drugs are legal.

    The issue is pretty complex and the results may not be the same in different communities, depending on where are they on the market curve at the moment.

    Remember, Microsoft's initial business idea was to sell BASIC interpreters to Atari. That is, programming language design was Bill's thing, so it is not him being myopic, it is more of him seeing somebody else riding his horse.

    That is what pisses me off the most about it. You have to struggle *after* you have already made some effort to enter information.

    However, they know it very well too that if they show you the captcha *before* you enter any data, most people will just give up right away, because they haven't invested anything yet.
