    RPN has always scared people. It's why HP calculators don't dominate the market.

    Scheme (and Lisp) uses prefix notation, i.e. the operation symbol + comes first, (+2 2). Reverse polish notation, also known as postfix notation, the operation symbol comes last, (2 2 +).

    One reason for the 75% of shares could be to force people to buy shares to make a 'round lot' of 100, or 1000, or whatever, thus making the price go up. In the open market its easier to sell 100 shares instead of 75. Everything is tend to be done in multiples of 100s. Quite devious, actully.

    If they provided better coverage and better service usa wouldn't be a 3rd world country when it comes to cellphone service and usage(so - they'd probably make even more money if they'd just bothered to do it properly)...

    If other countries wern't so damn small compared to the USA their coverage would such too.

    All competitors are given the actual route as a series of GPS waypoints a few hours prior to the race. Red Team is going to send those waypoints back to CMU, have the big iron there figure out the best course based on all the map data, and then download that course to the robot prior to the start. In a way this is cool, but it seems like they are using a loophole. A much more interesting problem would be to navigate a course that you know nothing about other than the waypoints.

    To misquote 'Red' from an article, some people have accused his creations of not being robots because they do one thing, and one thing well with out to much intelligence. This was his plan from the begining, get from point A to point B without crashing. It doesn't need to be intelligent, just elegant.

    I worked in cellular for 8+ years (even gave out an 867-5309, att wireless) and probably one of the more sought after is anything like xxx-HOME for real estate. They LIVE on there phones.

    Seriously, the people we send to the moon and especially Mars need to work as a unit and either get along or be married couples. People who are cramped in a pressurized metal tube for days on end will start having problems, especially if the didn't like each other in the first place.
    We have to live together, even with people we don't like in the Marine Corps. But during boot camp, and througout ones carreer, an espirt de corp is instilled. You learn that they are your brothers, and that your life depends on the man to your right and to your left. Such a training envrironment would be need for those going away for a long time. There lives would defenitely be depending on everyone.

    I liked it. The nights after I visited a web board frequented by both sci fi and militart 'geeks', and one thing we were impressed with was a beliveable future military. The announcments over the comm system, the rank strcuture, down to the way they talked and joked around. I hope they contune on to a series.

    The find a friend option is opt-in only, when your friend messages. you. It also only tracks what cross street of the tower you are off of, not your actual location. In a largish city that may be to several hundred meters. In the open that could be more then a mile. Soon, as technology progresses, they will unvail a more gps based location service.

    Washington said, "Government, like fire, is a dangerous servant and a terrible master,". That changes the meaing a bit from your quote, but proves your point.

Read it for a finance class, and while it is suppose to be on risk management, its the story of the development of statisitcs, which means it is also a story on the development of math. Its an easy read, an give a good borad view on statistical concepts and how they are used (and abused).

    Imagine the buzz to be generated by a full-page ad from Verizon: Cingular, Sprint, and AT&T want to lock you in. Verizon is fighting to set you free. For once, good business sense happens to be on the right side of the debate.

    Mhhahahaha. Thats exactly what Verizon wants the general population to think. Why do a 180o now? Because the end is near as far as number portability. All Verizon is doing is crapping on the other carriers by saying 'Look, we're doing the right thing for the consumers, and everyone else should." Befor this, Verizon was one of the largest opponents of NP, and probably still are. They just are taking a pramatic approach now. But don't think that they are "Verizon is fighting to set you free."

    Right now, I just wish that the cellular carriers would provide hardware to plug into my house POTS wiring. I subscribed to Ameritech/SBC for only two months before I realized that their customer inservice was not going to work for me. This was prior to the monopoly on local phone carriers. At the time, it made sense to swap to cellular and I've never had a problem but it would be nice to have a regular phone system at home. It would be nice if I could just put my cell phone on a docking station/charger when I came home and calls could ring into the home system.
