Wouldn't the Harddrive addon be needed for this? i think it would possibly tip over the price of a Tivo on its own, so im thinking whats the point of reinventing the wheel with something that costs more?
Anyone looked recenty on Windows Update and what there downloading? iirc they have released a new version of Critical Update check, which checks and background downloads updates...ever thought it might be to track changes on Windows Update?
To clear this up probably the best way is to sniff a connection going to these sites, ive already added these sites to my snort sniffer on my firewall...lets see what it turns up eh?
Never tried OSX yet, but i've heard too many good things to let it just slide by the and not be used. Hence this week im gonna grab a G4 from work to have a try on:)
Anyway apple are playing the Darwin core, and gettin the Open Source community to take a look at it...get the support of the people and you will have a excellent OS...linux for example:)
The whole censorship thingie has been flying around for years now, the BBFC class themselves as the moral guardians of modern british society...which frankly has annoyed more people over the years than our goverment has, and thats saying something.
Tbh, i dont think a 1 second cut will affect the film at all, but still its the principle of the matter...why do we have a legally binding orginisation that can tell us what we can and can't watch? Freedom of choice doesn't exist in all aspects of life it may seem.
Just my $0.02 on the subject, i did media studies at college and i think i have a good look on the system...but prove me wrong if u feel u want to:)
but Windows is not 100% compatible with old DOS apps. tbh i think you will struggle to run anything created before DOS 5.0 and anything that uses special graphical extensions.
On the other side, ive not seen a old X app that wont run on the newest server version.
Has it actually been enforced on a mass scale? you only really hear of the minor disputes about copyright. As for actual violations of the GPL there pritty much rare. I've (personally) not heard of any people getting dragged to court about this.
I think in general that people feel more relaxed with the GPL, after knowing the basics of the license people dont seem to worry about what effects it will have on them. Where as when a new MS EULA comes out every person who understands legal writing reads it in pure terror, in hope that nothing more has been made "illegal" in there eyes.
Just another $0.02 from me

Yet again, another excellent point. I think this was more the point if they released a new revision of the GPL and the previous version had a slight legal hole, it can be plugged up with the newer version with little or no hassle at all.
Imho, the GPL is much stronger in the sense that its more open. Theres hardly any major restrictions in the GPL, and what are in there is only protecting the intrests of the developers and the users.
Maybe now with him joining the MS team he can maybe push for more compatabilty between the compiler sets. I know theres alot of G++ and VC++ extensions that people would like to see in both sets. Maybe one day this may make porting apps specialised for one compiler to another easier.
Just my 2 cents:)
"8.3 Trillion Floating Point Operations per Second, 1.8 Terabytes of RAM, 170 Terabytes of disk, (including a 53 TB SAN), and 1400 Intel McKinley and Madison Processors."
Microsoft finally release the baseline specifications for there next generation operating system...
Yes STEAM is gonna be excellent for gamers to recive the updates. but really ive noticed it downloads in a pritty much uncompressed format, which makes life hell for us old 56kers. Imagine downloading a good 100-150mb of files to run the new version of counterstrike on a 2 hour limited dialup...nasty.
I just hope they still release Counterstrike in the old package versions, or i'll be quickly leaving...

If you had a bug in the code where a comparison was accidently = instead of ==, and someone submits a patch fixing this small error...and you correct it off your own back...could they still claim that they own IP on the product? even though it was so simple to fix u really didnt have to use there patch...
If this sounds stupid then flame me, but really this is what is lingering in my mind:)
wow i dont belive that. Actually modded down for admiting i make a mistake :)
then what happens when ur TivoPS2 is recording and u wanna play GTA3? Bit of a useless idea to get things to be a jack of all trades imho.
and i didnt fully read the artical did i...ill mod myself -1 for this...

Even with napster, u will still try to download a file from someone, and they will be on 56k :)
Looks like Intel has woke up and smelt the coffee and actually listening to what the developers want, not what they think they want.

The equipment they use is interesting. Yet again its a shame i dont understand it...guess i have to get my ex-girlfriend to explain it to me...
There seems to be no cover of what effects proving this is...or is it like:
"Hey lets build a lab on how to mesure the perfect time to dunk a biscuit"I an't tryin to be a troll, just want to know what effect this will have on future research
