I'm sure the CEO and numberous other people on the advisory board know of the problems at AOL and if there is anyway they could reverse them they would try to change the face of the company and evolve it for a different era on the Internet. AOL might be a half way house, but how about an option for more "advanced" users so that they can choose weather or not they want any of the bubble-gum gui that is the aol interface. Doesn't AOL now offer broadband services? Do you have to use their interface to access the Internet? How about an option for aol so that you can just keep your e-mail address for say $5 a month? If AOL was intelligent they would be coming out w/ new "innovative" services to keep their ship afloat, which I don't expect will sink anytime soon.
Go somewhere else? I don't believe that slashdot is all about discussions.. I find it not only a discussion based source but an information based source. Any web page is a filter providing you with informatoin more than likely that you intended to see. If you don't want to see this kind of moderation or changes to this moderation then go else where, that is your choice. People have chosen to see topics with moderation in place (threshhold) which is yet another filter. When you get so many people voicing their opinions and posting stories you have to moderate. Imagine what might happen if the united states was a pure democracy. Go create your "slashdot" like web page... that's a freedom that you have. Reading slashdot isn't like going out on the street and accidently stepping across a protester in a park... When you read web pages, web pages that you of course intend on going to, with filters, and of course moderation... you have given up the chance that you will see something completely new and different... you won't just unintentionally run into an ad for prochoice on slashdot, etc.... it just won't happen.
Can we make a computer take any propositional phrase and evaluate wether it is true or false... Not just some instances, but a computer program that can evaluate a hypothesis of any kind and then prove it.
It's possible that ReiserFS support was taken temporarily out of the kernel in order to solve some sort of instability. They could have put it back in the kernel between when I tried to install and now. Which you state you are running the most recent kernel. The complaint I'm making is that I started from stage one, and when I was in the 3rd stage, which even on an Athlon 1.2GHz it takes a while to get tehre, it was a very frustating experience.
Great... now fix the documentation

Gentoo Linux Reloaded

I tried installing gentoo linux in a time not so far away and it seemed like the install was going fine and that the documentation was fairly good until I got to the end.... I installed gentoo linux with ReiserFS support and at the end when I went to compile my kernel I learned a nasty little detail.... ReiserFS support was pulled from the gentoo modified kernel... go figure. If you're going to update your distro then you need to update your documentation as well. Documentation makes the user experience better by providing them with instructions and reference to quickly answer questions without hours of banging head against keyboard.
Mel Chin had already successfully done this in his work entitled "Revival Field" at the Pig's Eye Landfill in St. Paul Minnesota. Here he traps heavy metals and toxins in the soil leaving it untainted when he is done harvesting... at least that is the goal.. and so far it has been somewhat sucessfull. You can read more about it here satorimedia.com. I'm sure there are other articles out there about his research, but I found him in one of my text books entitled Art on the Edge and Over by Linda Weintraub....
How about you use it for electonic business cards. People tend to lose real business cards and an electronic business card would cut down on cost. What if by bumping into somebody you gave them your business card? Or how about even using it as a personal identification system in which when you go to your company it verifies its informatoin w/ the information that you are carying w/ you. I'm sure a security card such as this transmitted by just touch could become useful in numerous applications...
How about the people with pace makers? Are they going to have a warning label on the product or even try testing the product with them? Also, how about any other medical conditions that might present themselves due to this technology?
The question is when will other states follow this? And what are the consequences of companies that do spam your cell phone with text messages? How will the average consumer be able to retaliate for the damages or money they have to pay for the text messages? Will it cost the average consumer too much money just to penalize companies for their transgressions when they do leave spamming text messages? In essence... is it really enforcable?
I wish Slashdot would give some people the courtesy of either telling them before they post a link to their page or finding a way to mirror the page themselves. There are quite a few reasons for this... monetary, bandwidth, benefit of slashdot readers, and probably more than I have cited. I don't know the legalities of mirroring pages in the context of news or whatever, but I think it would be something to look into. It may be more costly to slashdot, but I am sure there are enough people who read these pages that have the bandwidth to help mirror, and slashdot could possibly give some kind of compensation. I've never had a link here, but it's just something I could see as being a general improvement.
Thanks,

If AOL should be suing anyone it should be suing the makers of Trillian, Cerulean Studios.
and crack it.

So what happens when a person gets DoS attacks? Or infected with a virus? Can we just unplug you? Or turn you off?

All the service packs.
I think this is where computers with proprietary components have the advantage.
