This is stupid. A professor not allowing laptops in her class is not an afront to technology. Laptops don't belong everywhere no more than cell phones do or anything else. Bottom line? It's her class. The kids should grow up. The fact that anyone would bitch about this is EXACTLY why this professor is probably doing the right thing.

  6. Re:Agreed... on IRS to Allow Tax Preparers to Sell Your Info? · · Score: 1

You are correct. People have this weird notion that people horde money as if the paper itself has inherent value. There are really only a few reasons to save money. The unexpected, big ticket items like cars etc, or to build future wealth. However, in the long run you will spend far more day-to-day if you have more. Take a man who makes a million a year. Yes, he may invest a lot of that. He may even save a good portion. However, he's also not going to eat bologna and cheese. He's going to eat out at nicer restaurants, he's going to drive nice cars, and he's buying the bigger house. This is human nature. People who are all about taxation as a great equalizer are simply socialists. They have a skewed understanding of human nature. One reason democracy in America works like it does is that it allows humans to pursue more of their dreams. The Fair Tax will augment this. Taxation as we have it now stifles competition and simply isn't designed to work for its citizens' full potential. Instead of envying the rich, people should start thinking of ways to join them.

  10. *YAWN* on Microsoft To Construct iPod/DS/PSP Killer · · Score: 1

More Innovation Through Impersonation. I think Microsoft's addiction to markets is the issue here. They want the search market, they want the MP3 player market, they want this they want that. They end up with a lot of products that are fair, some that are great, and all of this diversification siphons attention away from perfecting things like Windows. They want it all. I hope they persue it all, frankly. Maybe they'll start making cars, toilet paper, TV's. The more money they can waste the better. They will not get the search market under the name "Microsoft" because people equate that with MSN. They won't kill the iPod because Apple already gives the client away and has a player that is practically ubiquitous. C'mon, Microsoft, keep dumping money into stuff other than Windows so you can lose that market too!

How convenient that you throw the distro name in with the release name and wonder why they think it's funny. There are many other companies that do this.
