"See how the silly coders waste their time on the puny Linux desktop! How dare they build up the end user with false hope of a Linux for the masses! How it pains us to see the folly!
Of course, if it does take off, we'll implement it as soon as the user base get's big enough....ahemmm"
Troll, I know.
What does that have to do with it? I'm not comfortable with electronic voting. There's enough fraud as it is. Turning the system over to computers that may (and have shown to) have vulnerabilities is crazy at this point. No one seems to have a foolproof method on either side, though the bubble type is pretty good. I can live with the small percentage of bad counts. I think optical scanners are less than 3%. This may sound like alot, but given that many votes are thrown out completely in states where those amounts wouldn't effect the outcome of an election, someone is going to lose a vote anyway.
I find it hard to believe they'e losing that much. People saying "millions" are crazy. They've already pulled retail and isn't much of the EP version based on the original? Yes they have to pay someone to make the rpm's and keep up2date going, but they're already killing support for older versions. I think this is a bad move for the community. This looks alot like Caldera did in the pre-SCO days. Like I did with RH, I purchased boxed sets of Caldera but found their support often lacking. They seemed to desire only corp users. RH is going the same route. I realize you have to make money, watch the bottom line, etc. but as someone has already put it this is a form of advertising that shouldn't be overlooked. Having me as a fan means my company may be more likely to choose RH.
And what if the code in the firewall is as lax as his code. Theoretically, it could all be imperfect. This is basically trying to put off the responsibility. I would agree with him in that you can write the best you can and someone will likely find a whole. But given MS's starting point, this is hardly a justification. Think of this: It was until Windows Server 2003 that things like unnescessary services and "Everyone Full-Control" was even addressed in Windows.
I wonder if this is a "calling out" for the GPL and it's defenders. Think about it. They've been saying "The GPL is unenforceable." Now they are basically challenging it head on by doing this. Maybe this is a way of taking the GPL to court on someone else's dime.
I've been wanting a good WYSIWYG html editor for Linux. However, on the NVU site their "screenshots" link has only one screenshot.
But it looks promising!
We can debate the validity of sound in space, but keep in mind. This is not fact, yet. Scientific Fact is achieved only when enough scientists accept a theory constituting a large enough quorum as to make any opposing view appear to be of little significance.
The last round of patches from MS broke a good friend's company ADP server. We had to boot to the command console, run the uninstall batch file for EACH patch, boot back into 2000 and do the Add/Remove for each patch. BTW: What do I mean by "broke?" How about a blue screen "Init" error. System refused to boot.

Look, aside from price problems (see above), there are more practical ones. The more "stuff" a cell phone can do the complicated it gets. For me, the screen size that I need to be functional would make for a shitty cell phone. Even those that are PDA/Phones now are very big. What is wrong with keeping them separate? At least until video capability comes along. Holding a brick to your head is just not convenient, IMHO.

And the article talks about the GPL leading to others essentially ripping off the technology. Hello! Everyone and their grandmother builds a similar router! (Netgear, SMC, D-Link, hell even Microsoft!).
"But unlike OTHER routers, I can speak with an English accent!"
And I want a new Ferrari! It's good to have dreams.

I wonder to what extent this is largely invention. I find it hard to believe this is remotely widespread.
Guess who apparently has little faith in them...

for the release of MS03-049 (i.e. Yet Another M$ OS Critical Patch!)

If you turned them in before the exploit is reported!

Uhoh...Miguel de Icaza's project of flirting with M$ seems to have more work to do.
"Well, Sir, we were generally protected until our General Protection Fault!"
Okay, so that was bad.
Debian finally overcomes a huge obstacle for mass acceptance: a decent installer!
these idiots go out of business and that they didn't breed.
er.. # rpm -Uvh spamassassin-Senate_Enhanced.2.4.1-0.rpm
Now I can:
# rpm -Uvh spamassassin

No doubt. Linux should be bringing these prices DOWN not UP! What are these bozo's thinking? UGH!

Maybe they will be forced to show the supposed "rogue code!"
Does it require the newer Augeri kernel or will it run on the old Perry kernel? Okay, that was bad...ahemm...
