    Yeah well last year we had a little TS Lee drop 15 inches of rain us in a few days. We were out of power/internet for 3 days, unable to leave town due to flooded roads for 4 days and had no water for 10 days as the water plant was submerged. This is 2.5 hours west of NYC into PA. Well inland - its not wind its the concern for the rain and worries that the storm might just stall out and park into day 5-6. We just came around the anniversary of the storm and people are taking it seriously here. No its not a hurricane, but a massive pile of rain is bad enough.

    What's this? We can't just sit on our butts and watch the money roll in? Looks like not. Too bad - I'll bet lots of folks bet their whole business plan on the average bandwidth per person of what a small toaster will use in 10 years.

    Whatever happened to all the dark fiber and the last mile bit the Baby bells promised? Get to work slackers! Maybe you're going to have to upgrade your setup to cater to your customers.. or else they'll so be someone else's.

    Don't worry - the early adopter will tolerate waiting over night for a rental to download for a little while, but soon enough its going to be a selling point how soon your movie from Blockbuster is watchable. You don't really want to be the slower option now do you?

    Whats with this new use of ecosystem - Jobs used it yesterday too in describing the range of new products for the ipod. IF half these people cared about the REAL ecosystem we might actually have something.

    I know I did that with v6, Can't be arsed to do it again for v7. Honestly I know my post got modded flamebait but it was meant to be funny. Java started out as a decent tool - but the implementation of the VM is so off (result of lawsuits?) that it takes 8x longer than a flash anim to load. That seems wrong to me java should be portable robust AND lightweight.

    ... without Sun's restrictive license, Java will load MUCH FASTER without that nasty disk trashing we've become familiar with. Oh wait this isnt going to fix that. Well, its still faster than loading a pdf!

    the worst part of the update process is the way you have to re-download the whole works and slog through the installer again. you even have to fight the firefox homepage checkbox.

    There were a number of impressive scenes in Half Life 2 along with a reasonable storyline and good atmospherics. I was fairly engrossed. And yeah the cliffhanger sucked. Of course, I finished Doom 3 as well. BY the end I was so freaked out by it at the end that I immediately uninstalled it. Not going back to that place - no way nuh-uh.

    I just bought this damn box. I put a Linksys 10/100TX usb adapter on it - the files (900 MB for 30mins) come to my machine at 400 KB/sec. (yeah thats bytes) We have a 250 gig hard drive in there for good measure. At the moment I've got 49 spongebob episodes and a crapload of other stuff.

    TIVO 2 GO works great if you dont use the software - or if you do even. Want to do it by hand? Go to:

    DL all the files you want from your 'now playing list'. As for DRM - well... tmpeg makes a nice VDC of it - and virtualdub has no problem manhandling the files either.

    And sorry but I'd disagree with the statement 'everyone has one already'. I know LOTS of folks who just don't - you do too if you'd look outside your geek bubble.

    Could I have hacked this together myself? You bet. Am I too damn lazy? Well now ...

    the quality of a prepackaged commerical free dvd set far outstrips the effort needed to toss files from a tivo to your pc and burn the files.

    though I'm starting to question my choice of the 802.11b adapter - that's not going to be able to pull the wagon.

    ... but that was a ways back - can you still get it... why yes you can Notice there are no lyics now... just fragments of the beginnings of lines.

    I guess a bunch of old text files from thousands of guitar players doesn't work out to be training. Still it helped me quite a lot in figuring out popular riffs and breaks.

    I'ce had a saddle bag now for about 5 years - great bag - used it with 4 different laptops so far. Lots of pockets - easy to carry even with heavy laptops if you use the shoulder strap. Convertable from backpack mode to single strap 'saddlebag'. I traded away all my other bags - this one rocks.
