Well, Election 2004 ended this morning. Like him or not, Bush is the man right now. He accomplished his goal, and a grand victory is always embraced by a leader's people. Dean's whole schtick was anti-war. While there still are merits to being anti-war (men/women killed, cost $$$, no WMD), Dean just lost his biggest stance against the war: that it hasn't truly accomplished anything.
That picture of Saddam in a disgusting non-bathed attire, dirt-filled beard will be remembered forever.
Plus, his trial for crimes against humanity will probably begin just around November 2004 (yeah yeah, cue trolls calling for "America's crimes against humanity, etc...")
good point. "Risk-taking" is very relative. To a random CS major, a $20,000 investment in a game (advertising, hosting, art equipment purchases, etc) is a huge investment. To EA, 20K is a memo. Then again, to EA, lauching their own sports-only console would be risky, and then there's everything-in-between that 20k-20 million range.
OK, I know "independent" means it isn't from some huge software firm, but I was thinking "independent" was in the "under $10,000" sort. Like Bejeweled... certainly prizeworthy, but if that cost $1.5 million to make, then someone did NOT know how to hire a CS major at the local college! (Hell, my friends coulda made that game and woulda been square if you agreed to buy them a new nintendo game or something!)
OK, I've never been to a "nerd convention" (star trek, comic book, anime, fantasy, etc), so I suspect those might actually be worse, but I do have to say...
The dudes on sidetalkin.com have got to be some of the dorkiest and nerdiest people I have ever seen before. I'm not talking about the average "nerd," I'm talking Saved-By-The-Bell type nerds! (Like the ones on that show who cheered for more homework and were always stuck in lockers...). Oh my oh my...
The Lord of the Rings has made nerds, and nerdish behaviour, cool."
Watching the LOTR movies is definatley cool, but if you ever say "I've read those books at least 5 times, and the Battle at (whereever) was better in the book" then that is definately NOT "cool."
it's kind of a mute point. the article you link is very interesting. it allows both of us to seemingly be right. Neither side is blamed. fact 1) there was a budget cut by bush and fact 2) there was the decision to cut the ISS support by NASA. Both can blame the other for the net result, AND for the cause of the other's action! (Bush = nasa failed, so i had to give them tough love. NASA = bush cut our budget, so we're failing). Interesting, isn't it?:)
From the article: "President Bush ordered a scale-back of the 16-nation space station program in early 2001 when the program was projected to soar nearly $5 billion over budget. The scaling-back forced NASA to cancel plans for an American lifeboat and dormitory modules, additions that would enable the station to house seven rather than three astronauts. "
Your speech should be censored too, by your rules. I'm offended by it, so it should be shut down.
Obviously, you didn't read my post carefully. I am NOT opposed to "offensive" speech (i.e. I am Jewish, hate neo-nazis but I said they should be allowed to march and say their hate... as long as it's not direct threats, etc which is clearly illegal). I feel that NAMBLA is a clear and present danger, since they ACTIVELY promote sex with 10 year olds.
Why do people have to blame everything they don't like on President Bush?
I don't. See my journal if you don't believe me. I don't love everything the guy does, but I support him a lot and I agree that he gets blamed for a lot of stuff that he shouldn't (yeah, like the terrorists began hating us in november 2000). He's a scapegoat in my opinion. Him and Israel. But for the record, it was Bush who ordered the downsizing of ISS.
And I completely agree that the ISS is a total waste of time and effort.
I'll bet all spammers will have some sort of patch put on all their computers so that they can have deniability.
If not that, then some "dead-man's lock" i.e. if they don't enter a certain password/keyclick every 12/24/36 hrs (whatever) then the computer automatically deletes all their spam software and puts a spam-virus on there to make it look like they were innocent (it would definately be a certain amount of hrs before police got around to searching the actual computer)...
You're like the ACLU guys who defend NAMBLA. They whine that "these guys should be allowed to have their website which specifically states ways to lure young boys to you and has detailed tips on sex acts with them." Now, I'm ok with Nazis marching with their hate speech as long as it's not actively threatening (note: I'm Jewish), but when someone like these NAMBLA guys are actively promoting harm to people, and these spammers who are also causing finite damage (albeit at a much different level - I'm not saying Mortgage spam is just as bad as rape-tips), then they don't deserve these freedoms.
the problem is that the spammers will probably move out of the country.
Well, I don't know the exact wording of the Virginia Law (yes I did RTFA), but perhaps it can be applied (or perhaps ammended) to allow arresting spammers from that state who hired spam services in another country.
After all, if you buy drugs mailed-to-you from Amsterdam, YOU will be arrrested, even though the feds will have no authority to arrest the guy in Holland. So perhaps utilizing a foreign illegal service while in that state's jurisdiction will allow for an arrest to be made regardless. I must say that this story is very good news though...
I was under the assumption that Nintendo's plan was to be the first of the next generation of consoles (nintendo5, xbox2, ps3). If the PS3 truly ships for fall/holiday 2005, would this be the first of the 3?
Don't get me wrong, I'm the biggest NASA advocate, always have supported them, always will...
But I was wondering, especially after President Bush lowered ISS's crewsize from ~7 to 3 (and it's estimated it takes a crew of 3 to simply maintain the station), what exactly has been accomplished scientifically? And yes, I am talking about things ASIDE from an engineering point of view (i.e. I don't mean "NASA/Russia have learned X, Y and Z about contruction in space, keeping space stations safe, etc). I'm wondering about the biological/chemical experiements...
(i'm the original parent) - that's an hysterical typo, imo. I'm always one to laugh at myself, so good job Scyber...
(for the record, i had originally typed it much nicer but quickly - so I then got one of those stupid "20 seconds" warnings and the original post was lost. I just retyped it quickly in the 1-line form you see there. "t" is next to "r," and the rest is history...)
but did anyone catch Average Joe last night? How can nerds NOT be talking about how the nerd got beaten by the pretty boy! And how about the Carrot Top lookalike for Average Joe 2???
Do the T-shirt contest winners get any money for each shirt (of theirs) that is purchased? Or did they get something for their design straight up? Just curious...
invaded a sovereign nation without international support
Besides The UK, Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Greece, Israel, India, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Spain, Uzbekistan, Kuwait, more...
If you need sources just reply with that standard reply. I have them waiting if you need them...

i'm sure they're good people, but like we all learned in Revenge of the Nerds... embrace it, don't hide from it :)

2. There is no new SCO news today.
:)
Yeah, and also no "Nintendo is dying / Spam Sucks" stories either

I never said that, nor do I believe that.
interesting idea...

Yeah, but which version do you play?
Star Wars Monopoly?
Gallip-olopoly?
Edna Krabopoly?

I wonder of Melena and Jason are still together.
For anyone who's tried it: how is it? How fart away was your partner?
...yeah, and for a while, one of them will wear a bucket on his head.
