To be honest, for me the VALIS trilogy (VALIS, The Divine Invasion, and The Transmigration of Timothy Archer) are the least interesting PKD books. In his efforts to talk about the "pink laser" and Gnosticism, the storytelling suffered. Give me Dr. Bloodmoney any day.
So Opera has been surpassed by the Browser Market and now by buying the e-mail client they are trying to gain some ground, which I do not see happening.
Really, Mr. Analyst! Please enlighten us with more of your carefully-researched gems of insight.
Unfortunately, to make this happen we'd need either a benign dictatorship of some sort, or a massive change in the public's ill-informed opinion of nuclear power.
In the meantime, we'll continue to paint stuff with berry juice.
Ha, they aren't intellectual elite at all. Just your typical power users who think they understand technology because they struggle along with desktop Linux.
Do you think it's okay to allow children to buy cigarettes and booze? After all, parents should be parenting, right? And yes, junk food is just as bad as those things.
It's just a bunch of Slashdot dummies who are doing the "bashing". Apple's tight integration of certain devices (iPhone and iPad, basically) with back-end services isn't right for them. Cool, buy something else and move on.
That's your fault for being on the shit-receiving end. You should have gotten your comp sci degree and become a (proper, non-Web) developer. That way, you could have been on the shit-dispensing end, a much better place to be, trust me.
I have read it, as has practically everyone from my generation. Technology was not the key to control everyone. Constant surveillance/removal of all privacy was, which was largely accomplished through technological means.
Autoupdates on your PS3 have nothing to do with this theme, as it does not result in government control via surveillance and a loss of privacy. It sounds like you're the one who has never read the book.
Dumbest thread topic I have seen in a long time, and an insult to those who live/have lived under true totalitarian regimes. Waah, my video game system automatically updates! I'm so oppressed!
I have profiled lots of things with Valgrind, and what you say is true. However, to the best of my knowledge, the xorg-server is still single-threaded. Mind you, I haven't been in the source in a long time, so maybe the docs are out of date?
How come this wasn't caught when they were profiling? Notice I said "when" - the X.org people aren't seriously deploying patches to such a crucial app without profiling first, are they?
Most imported consumer items are more expensive in Canada. Having only 1/9th the population of the US leads to economy of scale issues. Plus there is the French requirement.
Your hatred for Apple is pathetic. They are a company that makes products. Some people see a need for them and buy them, others don't. To bring emotion into it shows how impoverished your life must be.
Even more interestingly, many people in Canada fail to realise how great our privacy laws are, and how fortunate we are not to be living in the United States.
Personally, probably because I was born and raised in Canada, I wouldn't give up my right to privacy in exchange for the US idea of freedom, in which theory is very different from practise.
I really hate Eclipse actually. I find it buggy, slow, and non-intuitive in a lot of ways. For Java stuff, IntelliJ IDEA is really great. For non-MS C and C++...I'm not really sure anymore. I mostly end up using Vim and the command line.

There, you'll find the Darwin source plus lots of other stuff, too much to name really. Feel free to download it and try it out.
Anyway, you were saying something about how Apple threatens software freedom. Or maybe you are just a confused kid with idea what he's talking about?
Well if it's true, no wonder it's not interesting.

But who would want to, when they are covered with hair?

Well there you go then, you are in a shit-dispensing part of the food chain. Well done!
If you think you have it bad, go and visit one of your admins some time or, even worse, someone in tech support *shudder*

Hmm, personal ads written in Python...now there's an idea.
Are you joking? I can't tell.
OS X's kernel is open source (BSD license) and very well documented.
Cool story, bro.

That's basically how it works in Canada, though the threats have to be more than just some internet randomness.
