Well, I think all the Star Wars movies are greatly overrated. All the Star Trek ones too, except that one where Kirk dies twice. Can't get enough of that. I thought Contact sucked as well.
Well, Missy Elliot was so fat that she needed gastric-bypass surgery, and she is as annoying as hell, so she has a lot in common with the average fanboy. ^_^
IGN does have the Wi-Fi Connection contract through GameSpy. I'd expect them to be biased toward Nintendo.
I just wish all news would try harder to be fair. I don't mind that you are a Sony, Nintendo, or Xbox fan, just don't go out of your way to slight people. This is small beans. When you look at the real news, they play the same game with Liberals playing the part of Nintendo.
The video game crash was caused by a lack of confidence from the stores selling the games and systems as much as anything. Nintendo's uphill battle included restoring that confidence. Did they hold on to their ways too long? Yes, but the climate that Nintendo entered the home console industry was much different than any of the other companies had to deal with.
Nintendo have realised they can't compete with Sony or Microsoft on their own terms, so they've changed the rules.
Nintendo is a company that keeps a few billion dollars in cash in order to invest it quickly. They could compete with Sony or Microsoft directly if they felt it was in their best interest. Nintendo is, however, a well run business, and as such, they are concerned about making the most profit possible with the smallest investment possible. Microsoft and Sony's fight is an expensive one, and it's one likely to lose money for one of the companies if not both. The odds of success are not high even if you have the money to compete.
It's not that Nintendo can't play their game. They have the money, and they certainly have the talent. It's that they are not willing.
You can talk all you want about Nintendo's love of games and whatnot. I certainly believe they care about their industry and customers, but it's not important. Why would a company join a fight that nobody might win?
Other big companies could of course also try to compete but then you would also think that it's an anti-trust issue, or is it only Microsoft that is capabably of anti-trust violations?
Yeah, you see there is this whole issue of a company losing $4 billion and counting to break into a market where everyone else must turn a profit to survive. The rules are different when you are a monopoly. What would be a good business practice for a non-monopoly can become illegal once you are.
Not to mention that anti-trust is a complete farse anyway, it's a law that you don't know you've broken until it goes to court so a company is under constant threat of anti-trust as soon as they get to a certain size.
Spoken like a true Republican. Read some history. Learn what a monopoly can become.
Whatever. Companies we like can do whatever they want. Screw everyone else. There won't be any consequences to letting companies suppress competition. None at all. We certainly aren't experiencing any of those now. Nope. Everything is going swimmingly.
They can't yet, but that is the goal. Use one monopoly to create another, THEN raise the prices. They do not have a monopoly in video games yet so they will still undersell and subsidize. Then what? Oh, that's the good part. Yearly fees to play the Xbox. Non-competition clauses for anyone who wants to make games for them. Utopia! Oh wait, that's not utopia. That's ASS!
The scale is what makes it questionable. No startup is going to have $4 bil to lose. Most existing companies do not have $4 bil to lose. This is the spirit of the anti-trust laws. How can most start ups and established business compete in a market where one company does not have to play by the rules of profitability? You might say that they are now, but how long does that last? This is the point. It is an unfair advantage. They shouldn't have that advantage.
Are all overshadowed by the amount of money MicroSoft lost. Look, the Xbox 360 would need to be the most profitable console ever for MS to break even on this venture. No other company could sustain this level of loss. In fact, this sort of business model is precisely the sort of thing that our anti-trust laws should prevent. Microsoft must be paying some politicians a lot of money to overlook the Xbox subsidy in every Windows or Office license the government buys. It is a fucking joke to call this preversion of our economic system a success.
You will see that Nintendo is very cautious about communication with people not on your friends list. They care about the safety of kids who will be playing the games, and they appear to have the opinion that chatting with random people will encourage predators to play.
I think it is important that they do this, and I also think it will be a bonus for us. No more voice chatting assholes? Sign me the fuck up.
The Xbox IS dead. Microsoft's contract with NVIDIA has run out. There wil be no new Xboxes. Like I said, good lick selling to a dead system. Hope the dev costs pay off.
It would make sense if the Gamecube didn't have a broadband adaptor. Oddly enough, it does. So Blizzard is lying. Not that I care at this point, but to make this decision 3 years after the game was announced is a bit slimy.
Good luck selling any copies on the previous-gen Xbox, wankers.
See, your point on "lastability" doesn't apply. Here's why. I get bored playing any of the many I'll call them alternate goals or minigames, because They are clunky, stripped versions of other games. In my opinion, games like this are only as good as the sum of their parts, and all the parts are mediocre in my opinion.
If I only want to play the game for a couple of hours, the fact that I can play for 200 hours means nothing to me.
And the watch a movie or read a book for a better story is completely valid.
Grand Theft Auto is a game that provides a lot of game styles, but excels at none of them. Every facet of the game is done better in another.
For instance here are the games I'd rather play for each exciting gameplay option:
Crashing cars and running over pedestrians: Carmageddon Killing people on foot in a mall: State of Emergency Killing people in general: Unreal Tournament Flying a helicopter: Pilotwings 64 Taxi Sim: Who the hell would want a taxi sim? Mafia Storyline: Watch a movie or the Sopranos. Maybe read the Godfather. 80's Music: Best of Falco
The point is, whenever I play GTA I always wish I were doing something else. It isn't inherently bad, but I don't think it is as great as most people think.
I also wonder when the hell anyone is going to give Rockstar any flak for their highly derivative sequels.
Just be thankful you have the chance to get Electroplankton. It is very rare to have a game that didn't sell well in Japan make it to the US. Also, I imported Electroplankton, and though the game needs little translation, the manual needs a lot. It isn't a small point either. Iwai handwrote and illustrated the entire thing. The manual itself is a nifty piece of art.

To each his own I guess.
Indeed!

No! Crystal Gravy!
You lost me at "1up."

1up loaths Nintendo. I don't know why, but they almost never have a good thing to say about the company.

Where the hell is the $4 billion loss on that list?

Don't forget, you can get the Wi-Fi doodad and keep your WPA network.
Well, I could find nothing definate. There is rumor and speculation caused by an NVIDIA converence call that was reported by Spong and others as fact.
Here is the Gamespot Rumor Control on the subject.
Sorry, my info may not have been as solid as I thought.

When in the middle of story, you can hit select to skip dialogue, which is very handy when you have to try a surgery again.

Maybe moving to a country with a higher population density.
