    Tariffs are best used to protect an 'infant' industry. When it is able to compete in the world market, then lift the protective tariff. There are other mechanisms to assist the adolescent industry that effectively support a competitive world price.

    Tariffs are tools, and they should not be used in a mature marketplace.

    One of the jobs of a government is to develop their economy with the hopes of a healthy export economy. That is best done when that economy produces a good that is comparatively cheaper than the good being traded. A healthy export economy makes for a good chance of a positive trade balance.

    I do not support these software tarrifs.

    Some people are 'hoping' for the same for their laptops to simplify their assortment of power adapters.

    Lets see P4 laptop, 78watt adapter [for said machine] x 2. That is tiny.

    Yeah it is a cool idea. Long ago I had a rechargeable electric toothbrush that had a induction field charger. So the concept is not 'new' to the marketplace.

    Lastly they technology is not very efficient. I recall that it is less than half as efficient as a transformer [aka, adapter].

    Physics tells me that a gas and a fluid have many similar characteristics. The most significant difference of course is a liquid is approximately 1000 times more dense than a the atmosphere.

    Consequently the oceans slow the rotational period of the earth. I read about the physics of the tides twenty some years ago. The physics was clear then.

    HCl acting on Zinc plate can produce a very black surface. In about 1980 I experienced the chemical effect and read about it. The article I read had a microscopic view of its surface and it indeed had striking peaks and valleys.

    The intent was to use it in cameras in to enhance the already black shrouds fore of the camera lenses in space.

    It was very odd looking at something so black.

    OK, are these guys making this stuff up? The discovery that the universe is expanding is a given. Just now someone put it together that it is expanding at an accelerating rate?

    Come on! This story gives me doubt.

    My experience says "choose another vendor." I have seen too many of them fail.

    If you are going to use IDE as an archive, then build a system and keep that system as the one that supports the drives. Experience says again that the drive metric translations differ from one MoBo to the next. Meaning a drive readable in one system is not in another.

    NO. Because that is the rule. It helps industries in other states do business. I get to spend about .53 of every dollar I earn. The rest is TAXES. I pay more money in taxes every year as a percentage of my income. Yes, more every year. You probably do too. What the hell are they doing [or have done] with all the money they collect now? They want more to help their government? I think it would be a cool law to pass that all the people who agree to every new taxes for this or that to do the following: Have a high paying job, live in the cheapest place possible, eat healthy, not buy anything but the necessities and give all the rest of their income to the federal and state governments.

    I agree only if the new job is not what you really want, you are ready to deal with the negative light you are then in at the old place, and they will guarantee they are not going to pay you at the new rate.

    I would be more inclined to take the new job. If they could have been paying you the higher rate then they could have compensated you for what you are worth to them up to now.

    I disagree with what connectusa is suggesting. I dealt with dialup for 11 years. Dialup is as fast a WAN connection that supported an office [of 13 people]I had worked in for 3 years.

    I do not agree with the points connectusa is forwarding. We do not need this regulatory act to "save rural America."

    My suggestion is to live with your dial up and quit whining. When it is economically viable either the Telco or the cable company will make high speed service available.
