  1. Enough of these crappy stories! on Idaho Companies Tout New Wireless Record · · Score: 1

If there was ONE cliche story I'd like permanently removed from slashdot, it'd be these "XXX beats previous wireless record by X meters" stories that seem to pop up every 2 minutes.

Nobody fucking cares. It's a total waste of my fucking time and this shit only belongs in the crappy blog of whatever unoriginal loser just beat the "record".

What you buy on launch day is what games will be coded for throughout the life of the console. That's *ALL* that matters. Ayone who can't see that is a moron...

The chip would have to be writeable if it's to be used as a medical history. Medical histories are not static afterall. Otherwise, it will just be an improved version of those silver bracelets people allergic to certain substances wear (allergy to peniciline for example).

If the chip is writeable (and I don't think RFIDs are) then there is always the possibility of someone unauthorized writing on it and potentially causing havoc.

"Tadaaa! you're no longer allergic to peniciline fucker! HAHAHAHA"

"You need insulin. Lots of it :D"

"You have a very bad heart. Guess nobody'll operate on you now. muhuhuwahaha"

These are but a few of the very harmful (and no doubt, sometimes deadly) things people could do to you if they break the code.

Some people are easily amazed. For the sake of boredom, I'll try to spell it out for you:

    I spend hard-earned cash on a $300 PS2 when it comes out.

I expect said PS2 to keep working for 5-6 years until the PS3 comes out. Why?

If the PS2 stops working before that time through no fault of my own (No pouring water on it, dropping it from the first floor, kicking it when I get angry, etc.) I consider it fair to receive an exchange at no cost to me.

I do not care if the warranty is only 1 year on it. I do not care if I'm supposed to to Pay $20 for shipping it back and an extra $75 to have it repaired and sent back to me.

Similarly, I don't care about the surreal restrictions the eula of a game or software says I agree to when I press the "Accept" button.

I also don't agree with the laws that say I don't have the right to smoke marijuana.

I have my own working moral compass and common sense and I tend to follow them instead of whatever regulations are in place. That's what the abolitionists did, that what the founding fathers did.

Honest Joe Customer should NOT have to get shafted by bullshit 1-year warranties , Shipping fees and weeks of waiting for a replacement.

If my PS2 breaks through no fault of my own, I'll do the old walmart switch-e-roo and get myself a new one. If walmart gets annoyed enough, they can always discontinue Sony products or pass the defective items on to them or whatever. Sony's fault for manufacturing products out of confettis.

To sum it up: Can't use your old ps1/ps2 saves without hokey pokey. Nobody cares. Almost nobody uses backward compatibility as it is. No old peripherals supported. Nobody cares. there'll be adapters for the few who need them. Specs aren't set in stone. Ok, that's nice. Let's hope what they add is more than what they will inevitably cut (router functionality anyone?) HDD won't be for games. Duh! else it'd be bundled with the console. HDD mp3 bla bla hub bla bla photos bla bla movies bla bla share bla bla tivo bla bla psp bla bla. This is just a bunch of marketspeak bullshit. None of those functions will be used by anyone. The alternatives available to us will far surpass what the ps3 can offer. 80 gb HD? don't make me laugh... 720p to be the resolution of choice. Again: Duh! 720p offers 60 fps instead of the 1080i's 30 fps. Games are definitely 720p territory. As far as 1080p, that's just too hard to push for the nextgen consoles. Maybe for the generation after next. Doesn't mean a couple games won't support it though. Afterall, Gran Turismo 4 supports 1080i and it's just a PS2 game. And OF COURSE 480i/p will be supported. Sheesh, next thing you know, they'll start announcing that games will still have loading times... In conclusion: PS3 games are going to look real pretty and we'll be able to watch bluray movies on it. If you expect more than that, you're in for a disappointment.

I am simply not buying $60 games. Me and a few others are going to start renting our games now and the game companies will lose our business. I'll be back when you find a way to cut the middlemen from the picture and start offering decently priced games again.
