  1. Goddamnit Nintendo! Wake the fuck up! on The Revolution Will Not Be HD · · Score: 1

You know, if I didn't love nintendo games, I would be laughing right now:

First they shun CDs with the N64. Everybody thought that was a mistake way back when and lo and behold: it was! Nintendo swallows and goes mini-dvds the next generation but...

They go shun online gaming and downplay tech specs (I erroneously thought for the longest time that the GC was inferior to the PS2) with the Gamecube. Everybody thought doing this was a stupid move and lo and behold: it was! Nintendo swallows again and starts raving about wireless and online for the next generation but...

Now with revolution, They're poised to make what may be the stupidest mistake of all. No HD? What.The.Fuck ??? It's the ONE thing that next-gen consoles must obviously embrace. Even more obvious than 3D back in the Saturn and PSX days. I just want to start slapping whomever is in charge at nintendo until he stops making stupid fucking decisions. What's next? Let's nix sound in games? Or maybe use controllers with 2 buttons? Jesus fucking christ. I'm pissed. I'm gonna have to play the next zelda in 480p.

The exact same amount of shit kicked out of me when I was playing with a geforce 2 mx and a crappy 15" monitor.

Graphics have a LONG, LONG, LONG way to go before we get to photorealistic quality. It's not going to happen in 5 years, or in 10 or in 20. Heck, I'll be surprised if it happens within the next 50 years. So please shut up about it.

Mario Kart DS online. Hell yeah! That'll get me to buy a DS. -Animal Crossing ain't my kinda game at all. double meh. -I'd like to know how the revolution is revolutionary. I don't care what haters think, I know it'll sport good enough graphics to compete. -Tetris DS? Nah, plenty of tetrises available already.

I also disagreed with the SDMB's decision to switch to a paying subscriber system. The board still runs sluggish so I have to question the use of the money. In the board's defense, anyone can still get a free 30 days trial account (crippled : can't search) and it's trivial to keep reregistering under different names using throwaway email accounts so you're not locked out if you don't want to pay. I recently paid for membership because the SDMB is a very, very useful board unlike most of them. I won't go into details but it has proven to be a very sound investment.

Ooops, here is the formatted version of my post: As we all know, Hard drives are expensive and don't go down past a certain price (around $40-50) so it's significantly cheaper for microsoft not to include I can definitely see a "Live! pack" that includes the hard drive, headphones and x free months of live service priced around $100. I'm also seeing a "prettied up" halo 2 preinstalled on the HD to sweeten the deal. Xbox gamers today already have to buy a separate Live! pack, so this wouldn't be inconsistent on Microsoft's part. I still think it would have been smarter to just include an HD AND a microphone out of the box so that people have very little to do to subscribe to Live!. They'll have the online multiplayer taunting them everytime they launch a game and many will end up whipping out their credit cards and signing up. This would increase the percentage of Live! users significantly from the 8% microsoft counts on today. This means regular cashflow to microsoft (which in time will cover the losses incurred by bundling HDs in the system), not to mention that once you are paying for Live!, then you have more incentive to buy new games. If your friend buys a solo game, you could always wait for him to finish it and borrow it. If it's a multiplayer game, you'll go buy it so you can play online with him. Also, playing online is great in and on itself... And well, no developper will complain because they have a Hard Drive to work with either. We all know that the Xbox's HD and the PS2's optional one didn't really see much use but that could change.
