Parent is unfortunately correct. It hasn't always been like that but IMDB sold out completely in the last two years.
They started by artificially delaying the average rating from showing up,
then the reviews that appear on the front page started being excessively positive even for really crappy movies (we're talking 6-7 reviews in a row with ratings of 9-10 for movies that average 5-6 scores)
then they increased the minimum number of words you need to type in a review to unreasonable levels (which greatly reduces the negative ones).
The average scores when they exist are still reliable but i've started turning more and more to rotten tomatoes for new movies.
Am I the only one getting tired of all these uninteresting stories about WiFi being available here or there?
Yes, you can bridge hundreds of wireless routers and have humongous hot spots, yes you can get WiFi on moving spaces, yes you can go to the desert and have a connection over large distances and maybe beat this week's world record.
We know that.We really do. WiFi is great, it's this awesome magic thing that allows you to download the interweb out of thin air. Now knock it the hell off.
The dreamcast used proprietary GD-Roms with 1Gb capacity actually. Lot of good it did them...it was the easiest to pirate for.
Other than that, I agree with you. I think people tend to forget how significant the PS3 BluRay drive is. Not so much because of the storage capacity (it's not needed for games) but because of the ability to play BluRay movies.
It would be a bad move for Microsoft to release their next console above the $299 mark. They need market share and they need it before the PS3 is released (which could happen anytime between march and november 2006).
That means the Xbox has less than a year to take the advantage and convince enough gamers to buy it. This, combined with a pricedrop coinciding with Christmas 2006 may give it enough userbase to compete head to head with the PS3 when it is released because the PS3 *will* sell in huge numbers.
And not just because of the name recognition and the hype surrounding the Cell processor but also because of the integrated BluRay drive. Remember how much of an incentive the DVD-playing capability of the PS2 proved to be back then.
those kind of fighting games require very low latencies to function. MMorpgs because of their nature have high latencies. Partly because they're online and partly because they can't have lots of servers in lots of different locations with enough players to populate them. it's an economic and logistical problem.
apparently a large portion of Japanese gamers only like Japanese games
I don't blame them.
I know that if I had to chose between japanese and american/european games, I'd chose japanese without blinking.
"For niche users like graphic designers"
How about GAMERS? There are a lot of gamers. A whole lot of them. Millions and Millions of gamers upon gamers. They need computing power. Lots and Lots of computing power. All the power they can get and then some.
How about them? Did you forget them? Suddenly, everything you said makes no sense anymore...
This is very nice looking for a fan-made movie. It is , however, subpar to a hollywood production (CG, actors, fight scenes...). But even getting to the level to actually be compared to a hollywood movie is a huge achievement so congratulations to the crew.
Everybody probably knows this but it bears repeating. Federal prisons aren't so bad in that respect. It's state penitentiaries that you want to stay away from.
Even since I started reading slashdot, I lost all respect for Australia as a nation. It must be hard to be proud to be australian when your government is such an american puppet...as opposed to, say, France.
I disagree. So maybe porn helped VHS win the format wars but that was back in a time where nothing existed that allowed you to watch full motion porn videos in the privacy of your room. A true revolution.
Nowadays, you already have vhs, dvd and the internet that can deliver all your porn needs. Porn will likely have no significant effect on the outcome of the HD war.
Doesn't matter whether it's a chip, a platter or a magic banana. This is about density.
Now, if you told me that transfer speeds and latency are superior to those find in RAM nowadays, it would change everything but it doesn't appear to be the case.
We don't measure HDs in Terabits . 1 Tbit = 128 GBytes or 128 gigs3
Second, converting this from inches to Centimeters, we get slightly less than 20GB/cm^2
Yes ladies and gentlemen, 20 Gigs per Squared centimeters.
That's a nice increase but it sure as hell isn't overwhelming.
Assuming a radius of 5 cm for a 3.5" HD, we get a surface of 80 cm^2 per platter. That comes to 800 Gb per platter. around 8 times the current density.
These new-gen HDs will be at most 8 times bigger than those we have right now.
That's it. 8 times. Not even a single order of magnitude.

Thanks for the comment Captain Obvious.

Oh, there's going to be a leap alright. A huge leap. And you can bet everybody will see it.
I'm not sure what you're smoking but stop talking nonsense.
who THE FUCK modded this garbage interesting? This is pure nonsensical bullshit.
And i'm not sure why.
It's true. I'm up to 1119 Mb and climbing.
I say: Total awesomeness!
THEY TUK MA JERBBBB!
Good grief! Somebody mod parent as funny already!
You forgot to mention that smallville is a stinking piece of crap.
Not trolling, just a fact.
Not that there is anything wrong with watching crap...
Actually, some people vote funny stuff as insightful or interesting so that the poster can gain karma. Funny mods do not give the poster any karma.
I hope that was the case here.

I'll be sure to check it out when it comes out.

I remember reading them and it said just that. They can read your conversations and use them in any way they see fit...Mind boggling really.

Enough with the freaking dupes already! don't the editors READ slashdot anymore???

Now mod this up or be destroyed!
Low quality, streamable only real media? This isn't 1997 you know...
I believe the people want something of comparable quality to what's available in torrent sites. Non-proprietary 2-pass high quality mpg4 files.
If it's worth doing, it's worth doing well.
