Does anyone know why mobile phones have so little feedback compared to most landline phones? Is it a technical obstacle, or do manufacturers just do it for the hell of it? If it's such an important issue, why do we still get it so wrong?
Indeed, multitasking for humans is a myth, and in my experience it isn't true that "women are better at multitasking" either, they get just as easily distracted while driving as men.
There are some people who will engage you in serious conversations and won't stop when you enter a tricky patch of traffic -- these people are dangerous.
Criminals have no qualms about using force, why would they resort to a weapon like this? There's already effective car stoppers out there like.50 caliber rifles and medium machineguns, both of which would be easier to acquire than a weapon like this.
Or they could just do a PIT manoeuvre or block them off to stop the target car.
I think the whole thing has been blown way out of proportion. Of course Apple is going to negotiate with Google and Microsoft. They want to get a better deal, as John Gruber puts it: http://daringfireball.net/2010/01/apple_google_bing_search
I don't think viewing child porn would cause pedophiles to have more or less desire to molest a child. The desire to molest/rape was already there all along.
So I don't see any benefit in making artificial child porn.
Steve Jobs hates netbooks, they aren't going to be releasing a netbook under his watch. The MacBook Air is the closest thing you're ever going to see to a netbook from Apple.
The whole premise of the article is just silly. Apple (and Steve Jobs) is like the archetypal alpha male, they're not going to partner up with Microsoft, nor are they going to be concerned about Google being "in competition" with them. Apple knows exactly what it wants and it is perfectly happy going its own way -- it doesn't let others dictate its strategies or vision. Worrying that others are going to overtake you is a classic trait of the beta male.
Hey, hang in there -- things will get better eventually. I graduated after the dotcom bust in 2002 so I found it pretty tough then as well. I must've sent out two hundred cover letters and job applications over the course of a year, it drove me nuts. You might have to work in another industry field for a while until things pick up. The web and tech industry is much more advanced these days, so I say now is the time to innovate and start new ventures.
Looking at those sample scanner pics, I can't see how anyone could look hot in those. It's kinda like drooling over x-ray pics -- not the greatest turn-on, really.
Multitasking for the most part is a myth. It's a rare person who can do several discrete working tasks at the same time and actually be good at it.
This is especially evident when I sit in someone else's car as a passenger. The number of people who can't talk and drive a car at the same time (and often they don't realise it) astounds me.
Something that mystifies me is the large amount of people who evidently jailbreak their iPhones and customise it in numerous bizarre ways. To me, that defeats the whole point of having an iPhone or owning an Apple product. I can't see why they won't just buy an Android device and be done with it. I buy Apple gear because it works well for me out of the box, and I don't want to mess around with the internals much.
Used to cost $2, but did you account for inflation?
Love how you dismiss the costs of bandwidth. So how much would you sell a song for, and when will you be launching your service?

You had me until you said that Apple computers cost 2-3x. Where did you get those figures from?
I call BS. Where has Apple claimed that FOSS can't get its act together? Nice strawman.
So what "stuff" did you find and what websites were you looking at that were mysteriously blocked?
You must be a very important person!

Huh, why would an ATM spit out money when it goes dead? Sounds too much like Hollywood.
You'd start typing, and your results magically appear!

Nice post, you've provided me with inspiration!
Exactly. No need for even simple social engineering when anyone on the inside would've done the job.
Businesses subsidising the bus service? Now that's innovative, I hope they do an in-depth case study on your city's bus service and publish it online.

Just because it's Kodak, a "not evil" company, doesn't mean they aren't patent trolling. In what way is "preview in cameras" not an obvious feature?
Classic apologist post BTW. If you were writing the same words defending Apple, you can bet that you'd be modded down like hell.

Or worse, what about when they want to shove their fingers up your ass? The whole thing has always been a parade of lunacy.
It's pretty hard to find an APC nowadays that doesn't have a gun of some sort on it.

He's a great example of the numerous Apple haters who are way more fanatic and cultishly zealous than any "Apple fanbois" I've ever seen.
It's only 2 days... I'm sure their/HTC's engineers are looking into it now. A little patience on the Interwebs, please.
