The government pushes economy cars until they happen. Then gas tax revenue drops or its growth slows. Every spending politicians impose a new tax so they can do more stupid stuff with our money. Bah, Humbug!
Ever wonder why you make so many stupid mistakes when you're tipsy? Alcohol makes your brain shut up - and that is not necessairly a good thing. As for social conversation,I suspect a lot of us dislike wasting time in absolutely pointless interchange.
If you try to use such a card at my company (just a little one - the Post Office) you will be refused because it is not considered a valid card. That policy is posted at most of our counters.
I sat in a small auditorium with other Seniors listening to recruters at the Colorado School of Mines. One of the recruiters was from Procter and Gamble - basically a soap company. He was asked why he was at the noted mineral engineering school. He replied that they could teach any of us everything we needed to know about soap in a shout period of time. What they valued in us was the was the ability to solve problems that was instilled by the tough course work. In other words, yes, the ability to think.
Except you forget that the munis grant the telcos franchises - the right to string copper and fiber on easements so they do have substantial influence over the telcos.
It is also a bold-faced lie. The bank is insured but, if your account is cleaned out with your password, you are screwed. The bank simply says it was an authorized transaction and tells you to go away and be more careful with your password in the future
Ad or not, it is a unique and interesting application of available off-the-shelf technology. I think it is interesting - but I used to race huskys too.
I would be embarassed to show that laptop in public. Norm Abrams would run screaming from the room if he came across that ugly immitation of craftsmanship. I'd place it in the catagory of a rough first prototype so it could be done well the next time.
When the world is full of idiots, the man with a brain has power. I'm old enough that I really had to learn the rules in high school and I've studied a couple of other languages. With the wonderful anonimity of the internet, I can choose to project whatever image I want to my receipents. With just a little effort, I can blend in with a group from Mensa or the typical NASCAR fan. When you understand the abysmal state of email, you can use that information to your advantage. "On the internet, no one knows you're a dog"
I recieved a message that they were unavailable about 1 this afternoon. I was able to get back in a few minutes ago but it was majorly slow. Glad I didn't need to pay for anything today.
My 65-year-old father-in-law just got a cable modem. He does not play games or download music. He does mainly email and just got tired of waiting for enclosed pictures to come and go. I wonder what he does to the demographic statistics?
I live near Rocky Flats. The local media recently reported on the final destruction of what has been called "The most dangerous building in America". Its gone, cleaned up and demolished. We're all still alive here. It can be done sucessfully despite worries from "The New Scientist".
My PC is unquestionably a tool for learning. Every time I install a program or do something silly like wanting 2 printers on it, I always learn a lot - usually far more than I had originally intended. Some of them have resulted in a Continuing Education program for me.
Come to Denver. Look at all the manual conveyor belts that were firmly welded on top of the hi-tech RFIDed, computer controlled baggage system that was to be the model for the next generation. I work in a Postal facility and they even came to check us out for ideas to make it run. Most reputable company in the world doing that stuff lost millions on Denver. If I didn't need to carry tools most of the time when I fly, I'd never check a bag by choice.
It will be interesting to see how they handle the whole idea. A lot of jurisdictions around here simply do not allow flashing or moving signs. I sure wouldn't want some movie distracting me at 80 on the freeway.
Its April, and as I look out my window in Denver right now, I'm watching a blizzard. 4 miles would be a perfectly ugly distance on a bicycle right now. I may need the 4X4 Suburban to get to breakfast in a couple of hours.
So leave it out in the open where parking lot attendants, bird crap, particulates, and acid rain will take good care of it! Does anyone really think one of the systems is practical without a drip pan, if not a full floor, under each car?
Uh, pollution? Ever walk through any parking lot and notice the ammount of oil and other crap out there waiting to be washed off into the ecosystem? How about the quantity of impervious surface alone to contribute to flash flooding? It becomes practical to capture gunk in the vertical parking model. Cost? They are not making much new land the last time I looked. "Surface" parking costs can only continue to rise especially as the true envoronmental costs get passed on to them. This is not a "solution in search of a problem", its more a cutting edge solution to an emerging problem.
Morons on slashdot? I don't think so. Opinionated, sometimes ill inforned, count me in, but not morons.

Can you imagine a major power relying on a foreign power to supply critical military hardware? The very concept borders on the absurd.

I think I'll come back tomorrow then good, dependable returns to /.

You don't even need compressed air now. Those battery powered circular saws with the right blade are awesome!

My only question: does it actually make usable phone calls?
About that wasting fossil fuels: why don't you turn off your computer, quit using fossil-fuel produced electricity, and take a hike?

By the time yo walk down the dark stairs of your 50 story office tower, they will probably have fixed the power anyway.
One question: Is the hood welded shut ( a la Volvo)?
