I've had this "disease", um, personality trait, forever, but only relatively recently have I decided that I'd be better without it (after taking zyban/wellbutrin to stop smoking...). I'd always discounted the negative effect of these traits, but after being "normal" for the 4 months the wellbutrin was in my system, and realizing how much more productive (in a straight line:-) I was, I started researching and experimenting with dietary supplements to get a similar effect.
What I came up with was the following concoction taken 3 times daily, 30-45 minutes before meals if possible...
shit, where are the 6-figure positions??? I'm doing oracle dba, java/perl/python/php/(insert client-specified language here) development, *nix sysadmin, software architecture, consulting, &c for _far_ less than the lowest 6-figure number. you guys hiring? get me in the 6-figure line!

you'll find the following text.
We believe God has raised up ICR to spearhead
Biblical Christianity's defense against the
godless dogma of evolutionary humanism. Only by
showing the scientific bankruptcy of evolution,
while exalting Christ and the Bible, will
Christians be successful in "the pulling down of
strongholds; casting down imaginations, and every
high thing that exalteth itself against the
knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity
every thought to the obedience of Christ" (II
Corinthians10:4,5).
I'm not saying this makes any of the text's claims
false, but I'll certainly reread with many grains
of salt.
The potential problem with non-GPL free licenses
is that development may be derailed by a rogue
commercial entity. Please read the following
message to the zebra mailing list, and explain what
assurances we, the community, have that relicensing
parts of Mono will not cause it's fate to be the
same as gated.
If you want to find out where this users is, why not
compose an html email containing an image on a
server whose logs you can read. You'll be able
grab the client IP address from his browser when
the image is displayed.
I haven't had any problems running 2.4.14, but
admittedly I only run it to play quake3 for a while,
then boot back to windows to do my part in spreading

"Just like free literature has flourished and the
big publishing houses have crumbled? Same goes for
free music too, right?"
A "book" must be made by someone with a printing
press. Music may be produced by an individual, so
this point has a _little_ more weight than the
previous one, however, you fail to recognize that
neither of the two "products" you mention may be
built upon the work of others. If I produce a
piece of software that converts a compressed image
file into a bitmap image, you may then use that
software to create a program that displays the
once-compressed image.
Collaboration and means of production make free
software a very powerful competitor to traditional
software businesses.
"Perhaps it is the natural progression of the
market. If you look at other industries, over
time they concentrated their power into the
hands of a few large companies. Oil, Automobiles,
Televisions, Radio, etc."
What do the industries you cite above have in
common? They all have a "means of production"
that could be owned by companies. Software is
radically different in that you, your neighbor,
and I all possess (or ostensibly are) the "means
of production" for software. Until humans are
legally "owned" by companies, free software will
continue to flourish, and at a much faster rate
than/any/ commercial software company's product.
Not so simple. What happens when you want to NFS
mount/usr,/var,/log to ease maintenance of a
room of machines? The sundry file locations are
partitioned <pun> like they are to group _types_
of files together. In practice, most good admins
will build a machine to maximize access to each type
of file --/var and/log on fast disks,/usr
mounted read-only (and often remotely)....
There is a necessary complexity in creating a
well-behaved computer system -- packaging systems
and common practices address this complexity. I
would like to see the complexity handled similarly
enough across all unices that software can be
more efficiently developed and deployed without
doing the job for each *nix.
cheers.

The responses to this question are quite
interesting. I've always hacked my own things

found the computer thing to hack. In my typical
fashion, I built my first computer from scratch --
just so I'd know what made it tick. It's not so
strange that I'm a *nix hacker after all;-)
I postulate that most people who hack their
things, are *nix (source code, please:-) users.
I believe/my/ motive for hacking things is to
not be reliant on _someone_else_ to save my ass
when it needs saving most. This is certainly
what attracts me to *nix. Putting forth enough
effort, I can solve most any problem on my system
since I can "get under the hood."
How about it? Any of you other thing-hackers
avid *nix users? How many non-*nix users hack
heavily on their cars?

Gut check a project at X. Tell the client 2X. .5X, so you can go play
Make sure you're done in

Hint: you rarely ever get to play on the client's

This is the surest way I've found to invest no
more than 2X in a project, and it inevitably
