"If I'm making a backup copy of a DVD I bought I certainly do need something like that though."
Under the DMCA you are not allowed to make a backup of a DVD you bought if that DVD is CSS or otherwise encrypted to prevent copying. Sucks but its true.
At current, the DMCA takes precedence. It is an all inclusive law that supersedes prior copyright law. However, it should also be noted that our current idea of fair use only goes back to the late 70s. Check out the 1976 amendments to title 17 of the use copyright act.
"I thought that was what fair-use laws were all about. I *can* make *legal* backups of my purchases."
This is why the DMCA is a bad law. You can make legal backups, however you cannot circumnavigate teh copy protection on the DVD. So while you have the rite to make a copy, you do not have legal access to do so. If a DVD is NOT CSS encrypted (and yes, there are some of those out there) then you can just treat the DVD contents like any other data when making a copy. So as long as the DMCA stands, DVD X Copy has no legal use.
You cant use CSS on your product without a license and more then I can use the contents of your videos in mine. If you are making a DVD you do not need DVD X Copy to make copies of it. Period.
Is the DVD in question encrypted? If so then you need to get permission from the author to copy it. If not then you dont need DVD X Copy to duplicate it. What your saying is like me claiming that I need all these kilos of crack to prop up my desk so I can write letters to the editor. Taking away my crack is infringing on my freedom of speech! If you are making legal copies of a DVD you do not need DVD X Copy. This will continue to be true as long as the DCMA is around.
For instance, I'm losing sleep these days trying to figure out why my 62.5/125 multimode SC/SC patch cables are not working with my new gigabit network cards and switches when they worked just fine with my older 100Base-FX setup. Last night I foudn ONE cable that that network card thought worked but the switch didn't (got a connection but no traffic). Many more nights like that and I may just go back to token ring.
Because of course, everyone who can think up a unique recipe can afford to open a restaurant. Furthermore the big IBM, Redhat and Sun restauants down the block from yours would NEVER use your recipe and offer your dish for less then you can.
Someone needs to take the reality 2x4 to ESRs head.
Good thing AMD never copied the Intel instruction set. Or is it a good thing when AMD trys for market wide compatiblity but a bad thing when Intel does the same?
Most if not all Spam sent this way claims to be comming from some place other then the computer that sent it. If you get a message claiming to e from Microsoft and its source is some DSL IP range in the UK, this filter will chuck it. If you are only getting spam from known sources then you dont realy have a spam problem.
The current AMD chips have an on board thermal diode. However it is up to the motherboard to do anything when the CPU overheats.
PCI clock locking is to prevent the bus speed from drifting. Seems that most current AMD systems are running a 33mhz PCI buss +/- 3.3Mhz. Thats enough to cause crashes. True you see this in overclocked systems more then anything else. However over time the PCI buss speed can change in non locked systems due to thermal expansion of the circuitry etc. These are not big issues. In fact for home users they are non issues. However when I need my server farm to be up 24/7 and dont realy NEED the extra speed the AMD chips just dont look to good.
AMD processors CLAIM to have those features. However all third party tests show that they do not. If you have any evidance to the contrary I would love to see it as these two features (or the lack there of) have caused me problems in the past.
So in your opinion a better product is one without termal cutout or PCI clock locking? Or do you mean a lower cost product? The lower cost is nice, and while I use AMD chips for my game systems, I wont use them for my dev or server boxes becuase they lack features I want over higher speeds.
I for one liked the old Usenet flame form that was going around about eight years ago. THe one with "Liar for Jesus" as a check box. Ah well, once more in Italian

"Who can either reeducate to get a better job, or who can transition into another job (our economy is expanding you know.)"
So we should take out MORE student loans, go deeper into debt, lose more years of our life to train for another job that can just be outsourced like the last? Whats more, if the job market is expanding, how come there are fewer jobs? I've not seen ONE source that claims there are more jobs now then there where four years ago that is not scewing the results. What few new jobs there are, are all in the service industry. These are not the types of jobs we need for a strong economy unless you want nothing but CEOs and janators.
"We, American consumers, can now purchase products cheaper."
No we cant. All this is doing is lowering the cost to the company, thus earning the CEO and other managment more money. Prices are NOT going down because of this, proffits are going up.

Quick, before the evil technology take over and kills us all! We must make laws against everything we dont understand so they cant be used against us!
I'm betting on an old Newton.
I built one of these, cost me six times as much for one third the power. Unless you NEED a quiet system, dont bother.

I used to say that, now all the paranoids are out to get me!

You know the open source mantra, "if you dont like what we offer, write somthing different".
Why does the teddy bear transform into a dildo welding killbot? WHY!!!!

I use the Trepan-A series of tools.

Oods are they'll know where you are. Seeing as they need to send the bill for hte VOIP service to some place.
As if you need to ask
man finger
man touch
man slurp
man unzip
I find it best to unzip first.

What are you talking about? Linux has never suffered a buffer overflow.
