    Please explain how the DRM features in say, Adobe Acrobat are OK while DRM in Word documents are bad. This will not stop a third party from figuring out the format and allowing users to read DRM docs and edit non DRM docs. That is unless you are really paranoid and feel that Bill Gates is out to steel your brain because you have all the episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer memorized.

    Given that Half Life 2 will require PC systems the likes of which we have never seen and that Virtual PC has no hardware 3D support at all I would say its a moot point all around. You cant use Virtual PC to play 3D games, not since the Voodoo 2 went out of style.

    Or better yet, they could implant microchips under our skin so that when ever we even TYPE spam the thought police will come by and arest us. Oh wait, that would be stupid. So would signing away all rights to electronic privacy because you cant figure out how to filter spam.

    Here, I'll give you the best black list there is. Just type "ln -s ~/.mail/INBOX /dev/null" and you'll never get spam again. Better yet, just unplug from the network.

    White lists work in the same way that shooting yourself prevents cancer. Sure it works, but it undermines the whole point. Email is supposed to make it easy to communicate. If I need to fill out a form in order to send someone email they simply wont be getting the message.

    If you went to class to learn how to program and only learned how to use Visual Studio or GCC you got ripped off. If you learned how to program the tools quickly become irrelevant and the differences in programming languages is nothing but syntax. This is the difference between a programmer and a code monkey.

    This is true if, and only if, the service is running as administrator (aka root). The same is true on Unix if a service is being run as root. So please, explain the diference and why administrator is so much more vulnerable then root. Is it becuase root has fewer letters?

    Bottom line is that if you put ANY system unprotected out on the internet you are hackable. Hell, I recall when for some reason Sun shipped SunOS with a cd player set to run as root so it could write play lists where ever it wanted. Easy enough to have it create a play list that removed the root password from a guest acount.

    Becuase the TCP/IP stack at and the network card itself can both be over run. It the same reason NAT and segmented switches are not relay safe. If you can figure out the MAC address of the system you can hammer the hell out of it and break things, often allowing you to gain full enterence to the system. A firewall o nteh other hand should do statefull packet checking and figure out if a packet is 'bad' before it hits the server.

    How much do you want to bet that the people getting the clue are not the ones who keep putting unpatched computers on the internet without a firewall? Come on, regardless of the platform thats just asking for it.

    The SGI hardware carries a license with it. SGI wants cash for a site license, not the same thing. Just get a copy of the CDs off ebay and your all set. If you want to run linux run it on x86, why the hell you would want to run it on an SGI is a mystery.
