I'll try to explain using smallish words. He took other peoples emulators, ported then to Android, and charged money. These other peoples emulators had licenses on them that either required he make the source code for his changes available (which he did not do) or forbade charging money (which he did). It has nothing to do with emulators being OK or not. It has to do with copy write and what he was and was not allowed to do with other peoples code.
Its not like earth quake predictions are accurate. If they cried "wolf" every time they thought there MIGHT be a big earth quake, it would be useless information.
Other then contact-less reading (which can and is done with smart cards already), how does this allow them to track you any differently then a credit card?
As I said, Vaseline glass is often used as a calibration source. The CPM for many sources and quantities is well documented. True, if you get a random piece off eBay for a few dollars you may not know what its reading is supposed to be, but it should be consistant between different devices.
A common way to test a Geiger counter is to use a small sample of Vaseline glass such as a bead. The glass contains a small amount of uranium oxide which should be detectable.
Just look at how they got NetFlix running on a rooted Nook Color. I'm sure there will be a work around. Not that I'm going to care one way or another since I dont see the point in buying DRM heavy single platform movies.
I am reminded of an incident back in the dot com era. Some sales VP got an email with a virus, my security system wouldn't let him open it. His solution was to bring his personal laptop in, hook it into the company network and open the email. The resulting virus explored the entire network exploiting NT security share flaws and zeroing out (not just erasing, but filling with nulls) every MS Office document and source code file it could find.
A smart phone is a computer like any other and should be treated as such. Trust mobile apps as much as you would trust desktop applications. Do not install unknown software from unfamiliar sources and in general be as vigilant as you are with your Windows, Linux, OS X system. If you are paranoid enough, there are firewall and app activity scanners out there. But perhaps you dont trust them either. In which case, write your own apps. Its not hard for even the inexperienced with the app-builder tools.
Given that music and movies are about the only thing we as a nation create these days... Only partially kidding is the sad part. Time to cry into my imported mexican Coca-Cola (with actual sugar!).
Am I the only one who finds that kind of disappointing? Had he chopped off a perfectly good hand in favor of bionics he would have been king of the geeks for at least a day.
Childs and it sounds like others would fail the "what happens when you get hit by a buss" question. A large computer network should never be dependent on a specific person being around to do their job.
Amazon is in a given state. Someone from the same state buys something from Amazon. Money and goods are all exchanged within the same state. Why is Amazon not required to collect and process sales tax just because the actual transaction happened over the internet rather then in a store front?
I just imagine the look of total shock on their faces when someone tells them their laws dont actually effect the rest of the world where the Internet resides.
Yea, its a Disney copy-write. Some sort of animated movie I guess.
Who else are you going to persecute? Other peoples citizens are kind of out of reach.

Just saying, first things first.
Better a 30$ bucket of chicken then hemorrhagic ecoli from a 99 cent burger.
Really unsure why I should care... this seems more of a People Magazine article then News For Nerds.

What you're saying is its ten years out of date?

This seems ripe for misuse to me. Not that I'm against it.
To save costs, most theaters do not have a projector operator on staff anymore. So little or no corrections are made for different films.

Apple should offer a free Pippin if they buy an iMac!

3D films are dull, nothing ever happens in them. I'm hoping for 4D.

Has to be linked at some point I guess.

Gold plating makes the contact points non-corruptible. However, gold itself is a poor conductor so its debatable if its better then nickel.
