    You are unclear on what the service is. The service is information about you. You are the product. The customer is advertisers and other leeches.

    A better question is why is the database connected to the internet. There should be an abstraction layer fire-walled from the web servers. Web server can pass information to the DB server, but the DB server can only respond true/false.

    Only thing Blackberry had going for it was security, which they gave away with their capitulation to United Arab Emirates and other governments instance on access. There is no reason to get a RIM device over Droid or IOS and many reasons to not get one.

    Back in the mid 90s when I last worked with stereoscopic 3D we did it (ideally) at 120Hz with each eye getting 60 fields per second. On NTSC systems (also known as your TV) we used the full 60 fields per second split at 30/30 between the two eyes (NTSC is 30 frames or 60 fields per second). Looked very good at the time. Think I still have some old 1960's black and white 3D movies on VHS around here someplace.

    Given that the Blizzard World of Warcraft updater is a separate bittorrent client/application that runs in the background while playing the game, there is truth to their statement.

    Every router I've seen for years has storage for log and configuration files. My current has four Gigabytes.

    Pirated software is free. There is no way to compete with that at any price. People who are willing to pirate software will, no mater what the software costs.

    Really there is no metric. Its what ever a judge decides. The "market" can be defined as anything they want in the end. I recall one anti-trust suite in which the market was defined as something like drinks containing x% of apple juice in plastic bottles between y & z fluid ounces.

    I would just as soon my car and toaster not have a computer. If they do, then yes I would prefer to be able to run third party software and modifications. For the car this can change handling and improve performance or mileage. For the toaster this could add support for imported bread.

    The "ecosystem" is why I wont buy an iPad or iPhone. I want to be able to decide for myself which software I run on my computer (and dont fool yourself into thinking modern phones & tablets are not computers).

    Um... all the computer systems shown in Jurassic Park where real. Even the 3D interface, that was something SGI came up with.
