    The UK used DU in Phalanx CIWS on warships and 120mm tank rounds. The Phalanx rounds are now tungsten. The 120mm tank rounds (CHARM 3) are still uranium with a tungsten cutting tip, like they were in the first Gulf war.

    I doubt they care that much about losing the crew. It's the currently irreplaceable shuttle they're worried about.

    NASA will restart shuttle flights when they're sure they won't go bang.

    Not that I've got anything against Microsoft mice, but a ball mouse? Horrible.

    Maybe that's a show mouse and he's got a decent mouse for actually using the thing. After all, the paint is going to get really grimy with that rough finish.

    They were Mark VIII** unguided "steam" torpedoes, developed in WWII. There was some doubt that a modern tordedo (Tigerfish, IIRC) could take out an armoured target.

    I use it to connect my WinXP Laptop and my HP Jornada 720 to my phone for dialup. It works fine.

    It's no replacement for my 802.11g network, but it does use a bit less power. ;)

    My dad uses it to connect this phone to his hands free kit, now driving with a mobile phone is illegal in the UK.

    Direct injection diesels do not require a pre-heat delay. They start within a few seconds.

    I don't know of any indirect injection diesels still on sale.

    You need access to a PC with burning software and a floppy drive.

    Create a boot disk (floppy) image with your burnware.
    Use the image to create a bootable CD and put the firmware update on it.

    The other PC doesn't need a CD burner. Just the burnware. You can copy the floppy image to your PC and do the rest there.

    I've only ever seen one dead Maxtor drive, and that was DOA. I've seen a few WD die, and Fujitsus drop like flies.

    You wouldn't belive the number of 10GB Fujitsus I've replaced. Eventually the supplier started sending Maxtor and WD drives instead.

    I've also had a IBM drive fail due to heat.
    Hitachi honoured the warranty, but I had to pay for postage to the Netherlands (I'm in the UK).

    I bought a 120GB while I waited for my 60GB to get back, and stuck the PC in a new case with four 80mm fans. One fan blows over both hard drives, and I haven't had trouble since

    On the other hand, my laptop has had a 20GB Hitachi (pre IBM) drive, a IBM 40GB and a Hitachi/IBM 60GB. None have given any trouble, despite getting pretty hot. It looks like laptop drives don't mind the heat as much.

    I've got a 120GB/8MB 7200RPM Hitachi.
    What can I say? It's a hard disk.

    The only problem is it makes that "dying hard drive squeak". It always has, it passes all diagnostics and it works fine.

    It's a good drive, but the noise worries me sometimes.

    I've had four mice on one PC, just to see it happen. It's not much use since they all use the same pointer.

    Windows 98 and higher supports this. 95 may.
    I haven't bothered to try Linux.

    My laptop also has three pointing devices. Touchpad, trackstick, mouse. I can use any of them, and click with the wrong buttons. Just as well, as I prefer the trackstick buttons with the touchpad when the mouse isn't plugged in.

    Not just that, using a B/W camera allows them to use any filter they like.

    They have at least 14 filters, taking 14 cameras would be impossible.
