Shouldn't the /. people be trying to encourage women to get into IT, rather than encouraging behaviour which scares them off?

Yup! My idea: Programmers + Soap = More women in IT. Maybe. (BTW I'm a programmer, with a limited vocabulary)

My gf hasn't a clue what to do for a career, I've suggested programming seeing as she's great at languages. She's aquainted with HTML, which is a start :)

Here's the other 4 8ths: The brain is the most energy hungry organ in the human body, so maybe thinking less/easier does leave more energy for sex.

I somewhat doubt that /. was named so that Rob gould have a cheap giggle. He also has a fiance (sp?) / wife, or at least he did on Feb 14th.

I dont mean to offend anyone, but generally its guys who have to put the most physical effort into intercourse, hence our "obsession", for want of a better word, with performance.

Lastly, I fail to see the sexism in the story: where does it say anything about men being superior to women or such like? It's a post by a guy, aimed at guys; male oriented, but not sexist IMHO.

I'd say that the USA and Europe are far to different to be compared like that anyway. europe is a continent, run by a bunch of politicians hungry for power on a global scale. Europe is geographically small, hence the "need" for a single currency. Already dubbed "The Toilet Currency" by city traders. They know what they are doing, so i wont add any more.

An EU wide arrest warrant seems inevitable. Prezzydent Blair will let them fuck us with anything just go get his grinning arse into europe. It basically means that anyone in europe can be arrested by the "law enforcement" agencies from anywhere else in europe. No appeals, no corpus mendhi [spelling?], no luck. We might as well be one huge superstate, since this law effectiveley harmonises all law enforcement, while bringing it down to the lowest level.

Something Blair is unlikeley to say: "What?!? You want other law enforcement agencies to come over here and arrest my citizens without even asking? you want someone arrested here, you ask OUR police!" but nevermind. Hell, we dont even have free encryption anymore, in case anyone forgot. Hand over the keys or you better practice holding wet soap!

The dumber the electorate, the easier it is for corrupt politicians to come into power. Make of that what you will.

A few months of saving later and i got me an Asus A7V 266-E, and an Asus Geforce3 Ti200 card.... Mmmmmm....!! :-) I Haven't looked back.

I've had a couple WD drives fail too, and an IBM 20 gig, which i also saw a few bad reports of on a quick google search. i have 2x IBM Deskstar 60 GXP 40gb on my raid card... no problems so far.

As i remember the WD drive that caused the most problems failed with a few weeks or freezes and painful stuttering and delayed access. when it finally gave out, a high powered air rifle made a good mess of it.

The morals? Speed is rareley top priority when buying hardware. GeForce 3 cards rareley differ much from nVidia's reference board, so speed accross the board is pretty equal. The difference is the drivers supplied, and any software bundles etc... by the way check out http://www.tvtool.de/index_e.htm for better TV drivers. :)

In the long run its a good idea to take time out from Ebuyer, however tempting it is to order right there and then, and do some half decent research on the product you might buy, and any that might appear and make you think "oh crap, shoulda waited for that!".
